Hi, 5 weeks post robotic keyhole surgery. Still experiencing discomfort at port insision sights. Tiredness, I am older in my 70's. Perhaps it takes longer to recover?
Concerned about accepting internal brachytherapy because of side effects, damage to other organs long term.
Anyone else deciding or been through treatment. (grade 1stage1b cancer all removed now). Thanks.
Hi Shange, well done for having your op! The whole experience can take it out of us emotionally, causing tiredness, and the anaesthetic effects can also take a while to come out of our system. I had 25 x radiotherapy and 2 x brachytherapy in 2022 and honestly it was a breeze. And no side effects at all other than it feeling a bit warm once when I had a pee. But just once. For me, it’s worth it for the extra cover. I’d advise you to stop googling as it’s likely giving you info that may not apply to you. My 2 treatments were six minutes each, delivered by a a tiny probe inside something like a small tampon applicator, with the tiny beam directed at the top of the vaginal vault where the cervix used to be. I understand that’s the most common place for recurrence so I wanted to get that covered. Feel free to ask any questions. You can also ask your CNS if a brachytherapy nurse can phone you so that you can ask any questions you might have.
Hi marmite fan
Thankyou for your post, a lot of helpfull info there. I have appointment with oncologist and macmillan nurse tomorrow.
I will now go in with an open mind and decide once I have heard what they recomend for my situation.
Feeling calmer now. Thankyou.
Shange.
Hi
Listen to your body..you external op area may look minor but remember inside you had major surgery at it takes time to recover..
Tiredness is a side affect of your op ..
I had 23 external beam radiotherapy
2 internal Bracktherapy . Well worth it for piece of mind ..
Side affects minimal
I have just completed cycle 3 of 4 of my Chemotherapy treatment 1 to go
Best wishes with your op recovery and with any future treatment plan you decide x
Hi Shange
I’m 65 and had total robotic hysterectomy for stage 1A serous cancer (higher grade) almost 5 weeks ago.
i can say that i am similar with some discomfort still at the wound sites and get tired quickly, especially at the end of the day, It is improving slowly. I recommend daily gentle walks. I am going out despite the weather morning and afternoon. It helps to take your mind off things and you get to meet neighbours and chat.
The hospital told me that with brachytherapy they can target the area well which minimises side effects.
i am awaiting my follow up appointment next week. Im worried that i will need chemo and how i will cope with that.
Best wishes to you. x
I am cycle 3 of 4 with my Chemotherapy treatment ..
I was very worried with how I would cope , it's not easy but it's very doable..
Have lost all my hair on my head from day 14 of first cycle .I was offered cold capping but that was not for me .. but I know to ladies thst are using it and it's working for them..
Day 3 to 10 after treatment for me are my worse days .
Aches pains .nausea exhaustion but all manageable with pain meds and heat pads etc
Triage line is a godsend if you are worried I have been lucky only had to use it over my first cycle post treatment days . Spiking temps etc taken into hospital where I was diagnosed with covid this was dealt with quickly and I was sent home thst night with anti viral meds ..
Prior to this I also had 23 external radiothery on my abdominal area .
And 2 internal Bracktherapy treatments
I found theses a breeze to be honest minimal side affects some discomfort and bowels issues but they were also manageable..
Take it one day at a time ..try not to worry about any future treatments .. wishing every best wish fir you recovery ..
Hi there
Thank you for your reply and I’m grateful to you for sharing your experiences
It gives me confidence and i appreciate your openness about how you felt and how you dealt with it.
It’s scary facing this and to hear from others going through similar is such a boost. Makes you feel less lonely with it.
So far the hospital specialist nurses have been very supportive i must say.
Best wishes as you approach the end of your chemo. X
