Hi everyone;
I am 61 post menopausal had breast cancer a year ago. Had a pelvic scan for some unusual pain that turned out to be shingles however the scan showed a thickened uterus 14mm ( I am on tamoxifen which can cause thickening) . Sent for hysteroscopy under general but it was abandoned due to a stenosed cervix the surgeon couldn’t dilate my cervix or get through to take biopsy he was worried about perforation. I had no bleeding but maybe the blood couldn’t get out?
so now I am to go for mri scan. Climbing the walls as only a year in from breast cancer. Any thoughts? X
Hi Very J
Welcome to the Womb group.
I am sorry to hear of your previous breast cancer.
A thickened endometrium (hyperplasia ) can have different causes and cancer is only one of them. There is a link with taking the tamoxifen.
Endometrial Hyperplasia: Causes, Symptoms and Treatment
It is not unusual in post menopausal ladies to have some difficulty in dilating the cervix due to stenosis and having an MRI sounds like a sensible next step.
I understand that it is worrying but hopefully the MRI can be done quickly and offer some reassurance. In the meantime, if talking things through would help then please do give the Support Line a call.
