Hi all

I was diagnosed in May with womb cancer and told it had been caught early. I had full hysterectomy 2 1/2 weeks ago and recovery is going well. Taking things steady (I’m 51 fairly fit).

Last week the consultant phoned to say that during surgery she had found a growth in fallopian tubes and they now think this is connected to original cancer. I have a Ct scan tomorrow as she wants to take another look at lymph nodes. She is now thinking I will need further treatment. The us an MDT meeting tomorrow sometime too.

Just wondering what form this is likely to be and what others have had. From feeling confident that it all would be fine after surgery I am now worried.

My wife had head and neck cancer 6 years ago so we are very familiar with hospital trips. Her treatment was 35 sessions radio and 2 chemo, so she is rightly worried about me and what could be ahead. We’ve never used forums before but thought I would reach out.

  • Hi Booboo73

I am pleased to hear that you are recovering well from your surgery.

It is always worrying when post op results come back not as expected. Mine showed an unexpected need for further treatment so I do understand.

In your circumstances the MDT and a CT scan are the next expected steps. What they are doing is to confirm the final staging of the cancer and grade.

It is the stage and grade of the cancer and a few other factors that will determine which further treatment would be advisable. What they sound like they are doing is to double check that all the cancer has been removed and whether or not any adjuvant treatment (to mop up any tiny stray cells) is needed.

If the cancer was contained within the womb and then just in the fallopian tube and there is no evidence of spread into the lymph nodes then I would expect some form of radiotherapy to be offered.

If there is involvement of the lymphatic system or lymphatic/vascular invasion then I would expect chemotherapy to be discussed.

But this is only speaking very generally- the grade will be important.

My own cancer was stage 1b and a grade 3 and I had chemo followed by external radiotherapy.

I am sorry to hear of your wife's previous cancer and understand that this can bring back memories and cause concern for you. Please do give the Support Line a call- either of you- if you feel like talking things through would help.

Good luck for the scan and I hope that the MDT are able to give some clarification about a treatment plan very soon. In the meantime, we are here if you need us.

  • Hi

Sorry to hear of your diagnosis and glad you're recovering from your op.

I was diagnosed last July, had a full hysterectomy and was staged 3B grade 3.  I had 25 external radiotherapy, 2 brachytherapy and 6 chemo sessions.

My treatment finished on 8th May, I had a CT scan a couple of weeks later and my oncologist gave me the all clear on 6th June.

It's good to see your wife came through her cancer & treatment.

Good luck with your treatment going forward.

  • Hi I was diagnosed last April 25  was initially told  stage 1  ,  after my hysterectomy i was upgrade to stage 3 ..

After ct scan...  No spread to nodes or other parts of my body.

Recieved 23 external radiothery and 2 Bracktherapy

Then 4 cycles of chemotherapy ..finished my treatment end of January 25

Wishing you well on your journey .

  • I finished my treatment end of January still bloody waiting for my after treatment app ..phoned apparently they are running behind will be 6mths this month and I was told they do not normally do CT scans so stressful ..I am glad you have the all clear best wishes

  • What?!
Think you, Sbird and I have similar grading/staging and treatment.

i have appt for CT scan at end of July, was told by consultant it would be 3 months after end of treatment, but appt came in for exactly 2 months post end of treatment. Follow up with consultant at beginning of Sept.

i can’t believe the difference between hospitals, not surprised you are finding it stressful, hope you get something sorted soon.

  • I had a 6 week end if treatment check up no scans just a general chat she said three mths expected app end of June spoke to consultant secretary she informed me of the delay  getting beyond a joke now .. oncology CNS says they don't do ct scans..don't know what to think .
