Hi
I havnt written here before but have read a lot of your blogs
i am 68 and after a bout of Covid at Christmas I had a bleed was not able to see a dr until mid January due to the Covid and he referred me to a gynocologist … I was not examined and she told me I probably had cancer and sent me off to London for a scan
the scan showed abnormalities and they tried to do a biopsy which was unsuccessful and very painful and I was sent back to the original gynaecologist who said my weight was a factor and I needed a specialist dr … I was then referred to dr Ind in Harley street … he was very nice and said I needed to have a biopsy which he would do under general anesthetic in a couple of weeks … he also mentioned my needing to loose weight … after the biopsy he came to see me and told me I had had some fibroids removed and also a couple of polyps and to see him in a couple of weeks … results showed no cancer but a focus on one of the polyps …. He said he would run things by in his next meeting which resulted in them saying I need a hysterectomy
I have since lost 22 kilos by dieting my hysterectomy is on 23rd may and I’m so anxious as I’m still overweight at 128 kilos … worried about my age …weight …. And complications after op
thanks for reading
Hello Larfer
Sorry to hear your news but welcome to the forum.
Firstly I think you have done amazingly well to have lost 22kgs already. I am overweight myself and understand the challenges it brings. There are lots of ladies on here who have had surgery in their 60s (me included) and have recovered very well - and quickly too.
As for complications, there are never 100% guarantees with any type of surgery - but you will have pre-op checks and a blood test just to see how things are. They have done this surgery many times and there is even a robotic surgery option (which I had). Feeling nervous about surgery is a very natural and understandable feeling, but the anaesthetists work closely with the surgeons to keep you safe.
They will have a plan for you so get your questions ready and write them down to ask. Ask away on here too.
Wishing you all the best.

Thank you I have had my pre op and all seemed well .. my surgery iis robotic and planned for this coming Thursday 23rd … I know that until they have the final pathology you can’t be sure if the results will be the same …
Just trying to stay calm and positive which is hard ..
Yes it is hard to stay calm and positive - I remember trying my best to do the same. Robotic surgery - if possible - is good and I recovered very well. I'm sure you will too.
There is a very helpful checklist of suggested things to take to hospital with you. I'm not sure how to find it but maybe someone else can post the link. I would suggest a long phone charger, lip balm and baby wipes to freshen your face after surgery. Plus slip on slippers and shoes, large comfy knickers that cover your tummy and loose comfy clothing.
It seemed to go very quickly on the day itself and before I knew it I was back on the ward feeling so relieved.
I'll be thinking of you on Thursday and wish you all the best. Let us know how you get on.
Any more questions please ask.
Kxx
I will … thank you for your best wishes I’m sure I will be ok apart from the weight I’m pretty healthy … you are all such brave strong women here .. I’ve just had a coffee with a neighbour this afternoon who is a large lady and she told me she had womb cancer five years ago she had laprotic surgery and was fine … it’s all giving me confidence … want to get it over and done with now
