Hi all.
I hope it's okay to post here when I haven't had any diagnosis yet. I've been going through a really rough time and don't really know who to talk to.
I've had lengthy heavy periods for a long time but they've got worse over the past couple of years. Last June it made me so anaemic I had to have a blood transfusion (I had another one at the beginning of December too). I mentioned my heavy periods to the doctors and got a gynae referral.
I had an ultrasound and the endometrial lining was 25mm. I saw a gynaecologist in late September and they said I needed a hysteroscopy and biopsy and that'd take about 6 weeks to arrange. It kept getting pushed back and was finally booked in for the beginning of January but I wasn't able to go.
My anaemia became very bad and affected my immunity. I caught pneumonia, which became respiratory failure, and had to be ventilated and spend several weeks in ICU. While I was there I began bleeding very heavily and on the worst day they had to give me 8 units of blood. I had a CT and an MRO and they revealed a growth in my uterus.
I finally got the hysteroscopy at the end of January and the doctor who did it said there was a largr polyp-like structure filling my uterus. They took biopsies and I have to see the specialist about the results next week.
They haven't really said they think it's cancer, and by how long everything's taking that kind of makes me think they don't think it's likely. The closest anyone's come to talking about it is one doctor who mentioned the possibility of pre-cancerous cell changes but thought it was unlikely due to my age - I'm in my 30s.
But I feel terrified that it is cancer, because the symptoms seem to match and I've been so ill with it. I'm really scared of what the doctor will say next week.
Sorry for rambling!
I was very sick throughout Nov and December, with fatigue and infections and finally got diagnosed with blood cancer in an A & E visit.
I was admitted the same day and treatment started. It was a roller coaster journey and treatment went well. I had 2 chemo sessions in 2.5 months and waiting for 2 more.
Update -
Saw the consultant yesterday about my biopsy results. The polyp in my womb is a rare type or tumour that's benign in itself but can be linked to cancer. I have to have surgery next week to remove it - they won't be able to say if I have cancer or not until they've analysed the whole thing.
Bless you - is that going to done as another hysteroscopy?
I had mine under general as the first one failed - and had a polyp removed.
