Hello everyone,
I'm Sabine, am 63, and have just been diagnosed with type 2 endometrial cancer. I was told I would need to have a hysterectomy, probably within six weeks, and may need some brachytherapy as well. I had a CT scan two weeks ago and am awaiting the results. (chest, pelvic and abdominal)
I'm still trying to get used to the idea and have been keeping very busy with work and other activities, but wake up in the middle of the night worrying about it. There are so many things to consider, family, work, and finances. I hate not being in control of my future.
I've been reading people's stories on here for the past few weeks to see how everyone else has been coping and thought it was time I joined. You all seem like a lovely bunch of ladies.
Has anyone else waited longer than two weeks for CT scan results? Is it a case of no news is good news, because if it was bad they would have got in touch earlier?
Thanks,
Sabine
Hi Sabine, bless you, the waiting really does make everything more difficult. I had an MRI to do the preliminary staging and was very fortunate to get a phone call 2 days afterwards offering a face to face appointment the next day to get my results. It depends on individual hospital staffing levels and also depends on the day on which your MDT meet. What I’d suggest, as it’s been two weeks, is that you give your CNS a call in the morning to ask when you’re likely to hear, explaining how anxious you are because of the waiting.
if you have financial worries, I’d recommend giving the Macmillan helpline a call as they can in some circumstances offer some financial support.
Thank you for the kind words, Marmitefan. I appreciate your advice very much. I don't have a CNS yet, but will ring the hospital later, after the post has been.
Hi Sabine and a warm welcome to our little corner of the Online Community. As you rightly said, we are a lovely group of supportive ladies who have all been exactly where you find yourself now. Any possibility of cancer diagnosis brings all sorts of stress and fears and if anyone can hold your hand and reassure you we will as you’re not alone in this. We're all at the start, in the middle or the end of what can only be described as an emotional roller-coaster ride.
Ct scans can take between 2 and three weeks, depending on the staffing levels in radiology. I've known one of my scan image results to be available but the written report took a further 10 days to arrive.
It’s always helpful to others if you write a little something (or a lot) about yourself and how you came to find yourself here. Why not take a few moments to update your profile. It's always helpful for us to read if we want to ask you questions and you also won't end up repeating yourself. You can enter it into your profile (click on your username and select “Profile”) . You can amend or update it at any time. If you’re not sure what to write, just click on my username.
If you want to ask any of us any questions please come back and do so. There's always someone around and we can offer a shoulder to cry on, a hand to hold or listen to a rant, we’re here for you.
It might also be a good idea to download this booklet Understanding Womb (Endometrial) Cancer. I found it really informative and helpful.

Hi Sabine, when you phone the consultant’s secretary, you could also ask for the contact details for your CNS
Hi Marmite fan,
I tried calling three times, always goes to voicemail, so I've left a message. This waiting is the worst.
Thank you Mrs BJH, for the warm welcome and for explaining how long it might take to get the results. It's good to know I'm not facing this on my own. I have downloaded the booklet, thanks. Lots of interesting information and explanations. It's very useful. I have already made a list of things to take to the hospital, based on the post. Mant thanks.
Well done! Sometimes secretaries are only in mornings or afternoons or certain days per week. Hopefully you will hear back soon.
Thanks, Marmite fan, yes, you are probably right. I will hopefully find out tomorrow. I hope you and Mrs BJH are all right.
I called the doctor's secretary and was told she would ring me at noon tomorrow to go through my CT scan results with me. At last, I'll know what is to happen. This is the worst bit, the waiting...
Hi Sabine, thinking of you as this next 24 hours drags! When she calls I’d recommend asking for the contact details for your CNS team as it will mean you can have easier access to support. I’m good thanks finished my radio and brachy in May, and having a DEXA bone scan next week to make sure I’m not at risk of osteoporosis. But I feel fine, just a bit tired.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
