Hi, I’m awaiting bloods and endometrial biopsy for ovarian and also womb cancer. Anyone know what the guidelines are for waiting for urgent tests? Hospital didn’t tell me and I was too stressed to ask. Now I can’t get an answer from them on the phone. I’m 50, married with three adult kids and am self-employed.
Hi Daimoku71
Sorry to hear that you are in this position. I hope you can find some comfort from the ladies of this group, we are all in a similar position and are very supportive of one another. When you say waiting for blood and biopsy do you mean the results of waiting for the actual procedure? Also are you in the UK?
Hi Daimoku71 and welcome to the group. I know it's a worrying time for you, we've all been there so we know what you're going through. The wait for histology results from biopsies usually takes 2 to 3 weeks, blood tests measuring CA125 levels a couple of days. They'll decide after the tests to send you for a CT scan and possibly MRI scan.
Things have been getting quicker, my wait from GP referral to hysterectomy was about 12 weeks. It seemed like an age at the time with thoughts all going around your head but nowadays it's much quicker. If you do have cancer you'll be allocated a CNS (Clinician Nurse Specialist) who are nearly always brilliant as a point of contact. Try not to fret, easy to say, harder to do. They'll be in contact as soon as they have any news.

Hi
I went to see my GP on Good Friday as had some slight bleeding - she put me on 2 week referral and I had my hysterosopy/biopsy on 5th May and was initially given a follow up appointment for 8th June but received a telephone call on 19th May to say hospital wanted to see me that day, and that was when I was given the diagnosis that I had endometrial cancer.
I then had my MRI on 31st May but had to wait until 9th June to get my results as the jubilee delayed the MDT. I was then referred to a hospital in another area and I had a hysterectomy plus BSO this week on Tuesday.....so in total I would say a couple of months from biopsy to surgery but it could be quicker in other areas.
So I am guessing that you have had biopsy and are awaiting these results? if so then it could take a few weeks but hopefully they will contact you quickly if the results confirm cancer.
Hope you get some answers soon.
Thanks Daimoku71....I do feel a bit brighter this morning - yesterday I was very emotional and have an annoying tickly cough which isn't great when your tummy hurts. My main aim for today is to have a shower and wash my hair as was told had to wait up to 72 hrs post op before I could do this.
I’ve been suffering with a lot of pain and bleeding since last Monday, got diagnosed with Endometritis yesterday (probably as a result of the biopsy). Interesting how the brain almost can’t distinguish between physical and mental pain (neural overlap) in this way physical pain often becomes mental pain. So - waiting for urgent cancer test results whilst being in pain really sucks.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
