Hello,

Nice to meet you all. I’m new here.
Cant find any information about this online so I’m trying on here …

I was wondering if any ladies can help with this question…

I was diagnosed with 1A type 1 endometrial cancer on 11th Aug.
I have been put on Provera , progesterone treatment for 12 weeks.

I wanted to know if anyone else has tried this treatment.
If so

- Did it work ? How long were you on it?
- Did you get continuous symptoms of bleeding/ spotting?

- Did your oncologist explain how the treatments works

I’m 42 , I’m told this treatment is offered to women in their 30s and early 40s.

Please only reply about hormone therapy, I’m not getting hysterectomy (yet).

Thanks and regards

Lollie

  • Hi and welcome to our spot in the Online Community. I myself didn't have Provera so I can't offer any advice I'm sorry to say. Hopefully some of the ladies here come along to offer advice but until then it might be a good idea to take a look at this reading material about Provera from Macmillan Support and Information.

You could also ask a nurse by phoning the freephone support helpline, number shown below.

It’s always helpful to others if you write a little something (or a lot) about yourself and your journey to date. You can enter it into your profile (click on your username and select “Profile”) It’s helpful to other members with a similar diagnosis who can then hopefully answer your questions. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. You can amend or update it at any time. If you’re not sure what to write, just click on my username.

    Sending hugs, Barb x

  • Hello thanks v much for this.
I called Macmillan, the nurse has never known of anyone on this treatment.

It would be great if anyone taking this treatment can reply. Thank you.

  • Hi . Did you click on the link to open the reading material I provided on Provera - that's from the Macmillan website so strange the nurse hadn't heard of it!

You could also type Provera in the search bar at the top of this page and put in Provera, you should get a few results there.

    Hugs, Barb x

  • Hi I can help a little diagnosed at 30 was put on progesterone and the marina coil to slow the growth of the cancer due to COVID and also the fact I opted straight for a hysterectomy due to having 2 kids and I couldn’t cope with the thought of having cancer! The progesterone stops the bleeding as does the marina coil maybe a little spotting but not much. It did cause me hormonal symptoms like the type before u get a period. I went thew all this with my cns it can stop the growth of the cancer and revert the cells back to Normal and sometimes it works. Hope this helps a little xxx

  • Hello, thanks a lot for your reply.
do you remember how long they initially recommended the treatment for? Ive read some women were told 6 months to a year for it to work. My surgeon is already trying to get me off the hormone therapy after just 6 weeks. I feel like its not really giving it a chance.
having said this, I am going to get the uterus removed, I would just like to but some time to explore my fertility options.

  • Thank you…. I think the part that scares me is that this treatment does not work for everyone so I’m told. X

  • Yes it’s 6 months to a year scans or biopsy every 3 months talk to cns about fertility they are really helpful xx

  • Thanks. Have you ever heard of anyone who’s cancer got worse while on this treatment? Thanks xx

  • No I haven’t I do know this cancer is slow growing. Xx
