Hi all,
Just wondering if those with high risk or recurrence could share what their follow up procedures are. I was diagnosed with carcinosarcoma grade 3 stage 1b last October. I had a hysterectomy/chemo/radio which finished in June this year.
I had my first follow up appointment with a new consultant this week. He suggested every 4 months he would see me to check any symptoms I have and to do an internal examination of the vaginal cuff. I asked whether I would be scanned at any point but he said only if I had symptoms of a recurrence. I am a bit anxious that, given the nature of this cancer, that it could recur without symptoms and that without a scan I won't know.
What are other people's follow ups involving? Are you offered any CT scans or blood tests?
Hi Marblemouse
I also had carcinoma sarcoma (a grade 3) and was stage 1b. I am now 4 years post treatment. I had chemo and radiotherapy after surgery.
I will pop a link to my experience of check ups.

I was also told CT scans would not be given unless I developed any concerning symptoms.
I found the appointments reassuring and they were done by the clinical nurse team.

Hi Jane,
Thank you for sharing the link. I've just had a read of it and it was really helpful. I wasn't really asked much about symptoms, which I thought was strange. Unless it was just because it was my first appointment with him and further appointments may be different. I also wasn't given an abdominal exam, just an internal. I really hope my next check up is a bit more thorough.
When my radiotherapy ended I saw the consultant once- she asked questions and did an internal. I was then referred back to the clinical nurse team and was seen every 12 weeks for 2 years. Pretty much every appointment was the same routine. I was also able to email my CNS/phone her with any concerns. I am still under oncology but I am now on patient led follow up.
There would be no harm in asking for your next check up to be a bit more thorough and ask plenty of questions if you need to. I took in a list to several appointments.
