Hi all, I have my oncology appointment this week to discuss next steps after surgery.

I have questions regarding still struggling with constipation on and off 6 weeks post op.Im drinking plenty and walking lots.  My mental health has taken a hit, presumably due to being in menopause now, I’ve become anxious and teary over nothing.

Do I bring this up at my appointment or with the CNS or my own GP?

I’m not really sure which person I’m meant to speak to. I haven’t spoken to my CNS since the 22nd Jan when she called to check in the day I got my histology results.

  • If it was me I’d bring it up with the oncologist - they’re best placed to help and advise and it’s also stuff they need to know when making any treatment plan. My oncologist has been super throughout and has checked on everything I have raised with her since my op in Jan 2022.

  • I agree with Marmitefan, I’ve not really had any contact with my GP since diagnosis, and in in some of my oppointments with oncologists, they have asked me how’s this and how’s that, before I got to my list.

  • Thank you. I will write a list ready for my appointment. I’ll meet her on Thursday for the first time. I can’t wait now, I’m ready to find out the plan.

  • Just a little tip: if you’re likely to be being offered any adjuvant treatment, this appointment is a good opportunity to request consideration for any preference for morning or afternoon appointments if applicable. I knew that radio and brachy was being recommended for mine and I live an hour from the hospital, so I requested afternoon appointments if possible for the planning CT and treatment to make it easier for me. She said she couldn’t guarantee it but she’d note it for me - and I got them!

  • Thank you, I will be sure to ask. The hospital is about 45 mins from home. I am hoping I may be able to go back to work next week in some capacity, everything’s waiting on Thursday before I can make that decision.

  • Bring it up with the oncologist but if they prescribe and it doesnt help consider these options. When my daughter was young fig biscuits were the only thing that helped with constipation, lactulose was prescribed but didnt work and she hated it, she was happy to eat biscuits.  I use optibac probiotic gummies (work better than the capsules) and if they fail inulin powder.
