A second menopause?

I had my full abdominal hysterectomy 11 days ago.

I am post menopausal by 8 years. One of my most common symptom was nice sweats and having to change my top or nightwear 2-3 times a night. Now its happening again and it wakes me up the same with the damp around my collar.

Is it possible the removal of my ovaries has taken away any estrogen left even if its in my fat cells.

I never had HRT and still got cancer and don't want it now if there is any risk of breast cancer.

  • Hi Aderyn C

You are only 11 days from major surgery and it may well be a combination of things. I would think it is likely the sudden drop off of oestrogen post surgery is the main thing. Maybe speak with your CNS about it if you are concerned. It may be that given some time things will start to settle again.

HRT is not routinely offered after endometrial cancer as any hormones could be a risk where the original cancer was hormone positive.

I wish you well with your continued recovery.

  • Well done for having had your op! How is your recovery going from the hysterectomy? How well are you feeling? I was just wondering if it might be possible that it could be a urine infection, for example?
