I had my final chemotherapy 4 weeks ago. I'm finding that my nearest & dearest seem to think that I'm feeling back to normal now. I'm still having off days and feel under pressure to appear how I was pre chemotherapy. Anyone else found the same?
Hi Sassy
I had chemo in 2022. It takes a long time to recover from it- physically and emotionally. I would say its not so much as getting back to normal as to finding your new normal. I think however well meaning people are, unless they have experienced chemo- they don't really understand.
If your chemo was a 21 day cycle- then you are only 1 week post final chemo. Its very early days. Whilst the chemo attacks any cancer cells, it also attack many normal cells in the body and these take time to recover.
My advice is to continue to rest and start to do more when you feel like it. Pace yourself. I would say for me it was a good 6 months to start to feel a bit more myself again.
Do give the Support Line a call if you feel like talking it through would help.
