Title reads so much like a pity party.. but it’s honestly not.
I was diagnosed stage 1 in September 2024, at 32 years old. In October 2024 I had a hysterectomy… I saw my oncologist a few weeks later for pathology results, then again in April 2025… I was then told any further follow ups would just be a phone call (first one due this month) I’ve told my oncologist both times I’ve seen him that I’m still in pain and that I’ve had some light bleeding a few times and I was told it was normal and could take 18 months to settle down… so I’ve been on 30mg codiene everyday (multiple times a day) since before the surgery…
im not sure if it is normal to still be in pain or if I should be pushing for it to be looked into? I was told I wouldn’t have any scans post surgery unless I had symptoms lasting more than 2 weeks (bleeding or constipation were the main ones I was told to look out for) and seen as the pain never actually went away it’s not a new symptom.
if anyone has any similar experience or advice it would be appreciated.
thank you in advance
Hi Steph1407 there are a couple of things that do concern me reading your post. The first being you have had some bleeding? Is this still happening? Is there any clots and is there an odour ? Secondly you saying you are taking codeine still. I take it your GP is prescribing this for you and so is aware of how much you are taking?
You are obviously still in pain, so I would personally go and see my GP. Tell him about everything you have mentioned here and that your next oncology appointment is only a telephone appointment. I think you need to be examined at the least, and would be sensible to have a CT scan. Unfortunately sometimes we have to be our own advocates for our health, and have a loud voice to be heard! I am sure everything will be fine, but you know your body better than anyone, and if you are concerned that something isn’t right, then you make sure someone listens to you!
Hi Steph
I agree with Chelle.
I would contact your GP about the pain and the amount of codeine that you are needing to control it.
I would also suggest emailing or calling your CNS/hospital and asking for your next appointment to be a face to face one and to bring it forward.
There may be other reasons for the bleeding and pain but I think we know our bodies and when something does not seem right and it would be sensible to be checked and get some reassurance.
If you want to talk it through first, why not give the Support Line a call and speak to one of the nurses.
Jane
Thanks for the response. The bleeding has happened a few times since the op, most recently being about 6 weeks ago, but was after some “activity” and was very very light, no clots or anything else and only lasted a day… the doctor is prescribing the codiene yes
