Just wondering how long anyone’s waited for their surgery after the pre op appointment?

Ive not been able to get any time scale from the hospital.

  • Hi Dormouse

There can be a variation between hospitals and also can be affected by how busy they are.

I had my pre op on a Friday and my surgery was the following Monday.

I wonder if speaking to your GP may help. Mine was able to contact the hospital on my behalf. They may be able to get a rough idea for you.

I hope you do not have to wait too long.

    Jane

  • Thanks for your reply. It’s been 2 weeks since my pre op and I’m feeling quite anxious lately which isn’t helping. I think it’s the medication that is causing it. I think I’d feel better if I had an idea of a date.

  • Yes, in my experience the waiting at different times in my journey were the hardest things. Once you have a date its something to work towards and plan around. I have seen quite a few ladies on here who are waiting a while and then once they get the date it seems to be done fairly quickly.

  • It can depend on individual hospitals, how busy they are, and also can depend on your predicted grade and stage, I was a predicted grade 1 stage 1 and my hysterectomy was about 5-6 weeks after my pre op assessment (Southampton).

  • Hi Dormouse, I put myself forward for any cancellations and 6 days after my pre op I had a telephone call around 4pm asking if I was available for an op 2 days later, so I jumped at the chance. The next day I spent food shopping and getting the house ready (so no time for nerves to kick in) and the following morning my brother dropped me off at Singleton hospital where I was given a gown to change into and allocated a bed on a ward. Of the 3 ladies in my ward, I was last to be operated on and went down just before 2pm. It was all absolutely fine and straightforward and I was back home the following day. I’m now 4 weeks post op. I hope you hear soon as the waiting and uncertainty are the worst bit. All the best x

    1. Thanks for your reply. This makes me feel so much better to hear everything went straightforward for you. Hoping this will be exactly the same scenario. You’ve made me feel less anxious. Thankyou
  • Had my surgery last year. The pre-op appointment was 25 June & my op was 11 July (this was in Sheffield). It gave me long enough to get myself prepared. I didn’t think the wait was too bad for a large city like ours.

    wishing you the best x
