Good morning
I was at my appointment yesterday for bloods and to go through what happens from Mon ( chemo Mondays and radiotherapy for 5 weeks) .I live in a village and need to travel to Glasgow for treatment.I don't drive and my partner works away so I'm relying on volunteers from my gp surgery which is great .However the nurse said if I felt it was too much travelling back n forth they could admit me for the treatment.Ive spoken to partner and my sisters n they think might be a good idea as I wouldn't be stuck in house on my own incase I took ill.
Has anyone stayed in hospital for their treatment.?
I also asked what grade it was as my head was all over place when first told and they didn't tell me then but yesterday was told it's stage 3c1 .My weight and mobility mean I can't have surgery so basically this is just to control it not cure it .
I've not told my 2 sons yet as I don't want to upset them anymore than they already are (they're 34 & 24) but still my babies lol.
Also is anyone else still in a lot of pain with stomach cramps, doc gave me cocodomol yesterday and to let them now if that helps or need stronger.
I'm putting on a brave face but having had breast cancer twice and now this I just think "why me ?
If you were very fatigued from the breast cancer treatments, I would consider staying at the hospital while you undergo daily radiation treatments. Most people find them tiring. Adding that to the travel each day might make staying in hospital an easier option for you. When I was contemplating driving over an hour each way for daily treatments, it al most made me refuse to have them. Fortunately, I was approved for treatment 20 minutes from home so finished the treatments last week. You have both Chemo and radiation planned so that may be harder than 1 treatment at a time.
Sounds like it could be a handy option for you as it’s the travelling and waiting that can really take it out of you during radiotherapy.
Thanks for reply ,yes the breast cancer radiotherapy took a lot out me and it was like very bad sunburn underneath where it all pealed and was so sore so the more I think about it ,staying in the hospital sounds like a better option.
Thank you ,am seriously considering it and will ask them on Mon when I start.
I had 25 days of radio, with Cisplatin on day 1 and then 3 weeks later. I really struggled once I’d had the second chemo, which effectively meant the last 9 days of radio. So even if you don’t stay in hospital from Day1, by week 3 if you can I would take up this option (if not before).
I had no skin issues whatsoever with my pelvic radio and didn’t apply anything.
I was thrilled to be able to drive myself because that meant I had the energy to do so. My husband still works so 25 trips to the hospital would have wiped out his remaining vacation days. He drove me to the regional cancer centre for the bloodwork and oncologist visits and the next day for the chemo, an hour plus each way.
I had some skin issues with pelvic radiation, mostly in the skin folds. Lubriderm soothed and healed it. Overall I am doing better than I expected to after the treatments.
I attended Art Therapy yesterday. It was a fun class, although some of the survivor stories made me more anxious. It is a long weekend here so we are hoping to get the dog out to the woods for a nice walk.
