Hi all
I am due to finish paclitaxel & carboplatin chemotherapy on 30th April. I have lost my hair which isn't particularly bothering me but my daughter is getting married on 19th July and I'm wondering if I'll have any hair by then or if I'll have to try and find a really nice head covering?
How long was it before your hair came back and what was it like when it did?
Thanks
H
Hi Sbird
I did scalp cooling but also lost some hair.
Hair loss continued for a few weeks post chemo but I also started to get some regrowth during this time.
If your last chemo is 30/4 and its a 3 week cycle- then hopefully by July (2 months post final chemo) you should see the start of some regrowth but it may well be quite fluffy, soft texture.
I also lost my eye lashes and eye brows thinned again post chemo but they came back fairly quickly.
Perhaps have a look for a pretty scarf or hat so you are prepared.

Hi SBird
I completed my 6th and final paclitaxel and carboplatin chemotherapy at the end of May 2022. I lost all my hair after the second round of chemo. My eyebrows and eyelashes came back just a few weeks after finishing treatment but it was August before I started having any regrowth on my head. The hair was very fine-like baby hair. Each week it got a bit thicker but not much longer- it was November before it just looked like I had a normal but very short hairstyle. New hair then became very, very curly and a bit greyer which lasted about 12 months before it started to revert back to my usual straight, fairly dark brown hair. I hope this may help you in planning your outfit for your daughter’s wedding. I hope that rest of your treatment goes well and you all have a lovely day on 19th July. xx
So decided to provide an update on where I am re regrowth of hair almost 7 weeks post final treatment in case this helps others.
Eyebrows and lashes: thought I was going to be lucky,… finished treatment, and brows had thinned and most lashes intact, and by weeks 4/5 post final chemo I lost almost all of them..think I had 4 hairs on one brow! But then only a few days later lots of new growth, and two weeks later not looking too bad!
I didn’t do cold cap, but didn’t lose all my hair (although lost probably 90 to 95%) think my grey hairs are more stubborn than the brown hairs, as the hair that remained was mainly grey but continued to grow well throughout my treatment.
I clipped my hair really short the day before my second chemo as it was coming out in clumps and didn’t want to be on chemo ward the next day with the rest falling out. The hair I didnt lose continued to grow and was like a grey dandelion, so I have clipped it 3 times since that first time. Logic….if the rest of my hair started to regrow I wanted it all at same length. Last time I did this was at the weekend.
A lot of sites talk about peach fuzz when hair regrows..I haven’t had this.
But…at last almost 7 weeks post final chemo, I can see my hair is regrowing, and the dark hair is starting to outnumber the stubborn grey ones…so looking forward to a brunette dandelion look soon.
Good to hear that your hair is on it's way back.
I had my last chemo on 8th May and my hair is re-growing. I never completely lost it and it started growing in patches. I had a number 2 buzzcut on 4th July so currently resembling Sinead O'connor. My hair is very soft and very white.
My lovely friend bought me a wig for the wedding, which is this coming Saturday; she was more worried than me.
My eyebrows seemed to reappear almost overnight and I can feel my eyelashes but can't see them yet.
