Had a hysteroscopy 11 days ago where I am waiting for biopsy results as my endometrium lining was 'not normal' and I have been having bleeding on/off for ages (initially put down to HRT).  I am still bleeding, not really heavy, but bright red blood when I wipe and wearing a panty liner.  Also having cramps and twinges, especially at night, but no clots or offensive smell.  Is this normal 11 days later?  Hoping to hear something concrete on Tuesday as to my diagnosis which will be 2 weeks after having the procedure as I am out of my mind with worry.......

  • Hi, I am awaiting this procedure under General in March and wonder if you had it done under General?. after a small bit of brownish at Christmas, I had ultrasound which showed my womb lining at 14mm. I have small cramping left side and have worried myself thinking all sorts. The unknown is tough and i beat myself up in case i missed a small symptom in the past . March 19th seems way off and then awaiting results will be tough. Sorry to hear your having some cramping, someone on hear will defo get back to you. Can you give me any ideas about this procedure as I am wee bit scared tbh about how i will feel when I wake up!! , how silly I am !! xx

  • I have had 2 hysteroscopies in the last 2 years and both were done just with local anaesthetic.  I took Ibuprofen & Paracetamol and hour before the procedure and for me there was hardly any discomfort.  I do know that we are all different and have varying pain thresholds though.  If you have it done under General I'm sure you won't feel a thing as it is quite a simple, quick procedure.  To be honest, the period like pains i'm getting now, 11 days later are much more uncomfortable than having the hysteroscopy done!  Good luck, you will be fine x

  • Many thanks Molly65. Waiting for results will be far worse than this . x

  • Hi crazycookie

I had a hysteroscopy under general.  It was quick and I had no after affects, I even woke up and asked for a cuppa and a bacon butty! I didn't get the bacon butty of course. I was taken to a day ward for a couple of hours afterwards then went home.

    I hope yours goes well.

  • Oh this is good to hear, Thank you for this. Waiting for results will be the worst for sure. xx

  • The surgeon came and told me about the cancer while I was still in recovery after the hysteroscopy, so I assume it was obvious there was a tumour in my womb.  When I got to the day ward a MacMillan nurse came to see me too.  After this everything moved quite quickly.

  • I would have thought they would have to wait for the biopsy results first, didnt realise they could tell as soon as that. crikey x

  • They did do histology on the biopsy while I started having MRI & CT scans which I assume confirmed the diagnosis.  Obviously my surgeon knew what she was looking at.

  • ah yes that makes sense. Thanks for clarifying this.  Yeh i am dreading this phone call after biopsy is done, gives me the fear. Cry

  • All my appointments with the surgeon or oncologist were face to face so I had my husband with me for support.  The only phone calls I got were to make appointments.

If it would be better for you, ask if you can have face to face and take someone with you.
