How long until you felt well after your treatment

I am having treatment for endometrial cancer.
I had staging laparotomy, full radical hysterectomy with 24 lymph nodes removed in November. Vertical incision with 48 clips.
Now having chemo x 4 rounds . Then I have chemo radiation/ radiotherapy x25 and 3x brachytherapy.
The surgery has weakened me a lot.

How long did it take anyone to feel normal. I’m tired already and only had 2 lots of chemo!!

Many thanks

Lou

  • Hi LoulouFrancaise

Everyone is different and everyone has different medical history.

You've had major surgery and it is not surprising that it is taking a while to recover from. I also had chemotherapy and feeling tired is very normal- it really does batter your body. I found each session accumulated how I felt. Radiotherapy can also take it out of you.

If you click on my name, my profile will come up with timings but I would say it took a good few months to start to feel more normal following treatment. I have found it important to pace myself during recovery.

I would say that it was a couple of months after treatment finished that I felt more like doing things. About 3/4 months after radiotherapy finished I was able to do a lot more- however I did have lingering effects from the treatment.

I was seen by the hospital for check ups every 12 weeks for 2 years and these have finished now. I would say that life is different now but it is good. I think psychologically stopping the hospital visits and going to patient led follow up has really helped.

Hang in there- this is the tough part where you are part way through the chemo and still have the radiotherapy to go. Once the treatment finishes you will slowly, bit by bit start to feel more yourself.
