Awaiting biopsy results

Hi all,

2 weeks ago I went to my GP regarding post sex bleeding, very heavy watery discharge, pelvic and back pain. I'm 2 years past my last period and 46 so assumed of gone through menopause. They referred me to the two week and wait and on Christmas Eve I had a transvaginal scan showing cysts on my left ovary that aren't a concern, a thickening of my womb lining (25mm) with cysts seen within, a bulky cervix and and fibroids.

They took samples for a testing and fitted the coil. I've done my very best to not Google anything as I'm terrified I have cancer. I guess I'm just looking for reassurance and wondering how long results could take to come back. I think they said 4 weeks and the Dr wasn't very forthcoming in giving me much reassurance as to what else it could be.

  • Hello NicCee

    Welcome to the Womb group.

I am sorry to hear that you have been having some symptoms but it is good that you have done the right thing in getting them checked out.

it sounds like you have a few concerning things going on and in these circumstances a biopsy is the normal thing to happen. Your symptoms could have different causes but they tend to want to rule out the most serious potential causes first. Once they know what you are dealing with then treatment- if needed- can be planned. Only the biopsy can tell if there is cancer present.

My biopsy results came back after around a week. My post surgical results came back around 3 1/2 weeks. There can be a variation between hospitals and it can sometimes just depend on how busy the lab is.

Waiting for results can be tough and it is a worrying time. If you feel like talking things through would help, then please do give the Support Line a call.

I hope that you do not have to wait too long to find out what is going on but in the meantime we are here if you need us. If there is anything you want to ask, please do so.

    Jane
