Hi im just back from the gynae i was told 2 years ago i had hyperplasia atypia and being treated with provera ,as im diabetic so dont think they keen on hysterctomy .
My last biopsy was negative does that mean no atypia ?
Fast forward to friday and i had a bit of spotting went to the gynae clinic and they said the bleeding is from vaginal atrophy and everything looked ok. And has give my treatment for the atrophy
My lining has fine from 7 to 11 but she didnt seem worried but took a biopsy anyway ,im checked every 6 months .
but in my letter it still says i still have hyperplasia aytpia how can this be if my last biopsy was negative?
Im scared this time the biopsy is going to say malignancy
Thanks for reading this if you go thos far
Hello Mortigger
I am sorry to hear that you have hyperplasia atypia.
I will pop a link that may help answer your questions.
Endometrial Hyperplasia: Causes, Symptoms and Treatment (patient.info)
Hyperplasia put simply means the womb lining is thicker than normal. There can be different reasons for this. If the lining is thicker than normal but the cells look normal then it can be treated with hormones. (in your case the provera)
If the cells are not looking normal- so there are some differences between the usual womb lining cells and the new cells- it is said to have atypia. This type in some women, after a long time, may increase the risk of cancer- if not treated.
Your last biopsy was negative and I would imagine they were talking about it being negative for cancer.
Bleeding can happen from vaginal atrophy but it is always important for them to do the biopsy that you had- just to be on the safe side.
I hope that you do not have to wait too long for your results, in the meantime we are here if you need us.
