Hi all,
I have my first post treatment scan tomorrow, since I finished treatment in May. I am absolutely terrified even though I was told no evidence of disease at last scan. Did anyone have recurrence this soon and if so, did you have symptoms? I feel absolutely fine, bit of a bloated stomach but I think that's down to IBS and me eating very well. Is it normal to feel this worried?
Hi Summer25
Yes, it is very normal and understandable. You are not alone in feeling like this.
I don't have regular scans at my hospital but I have 12 weekly check ups and feel very anxious before hand. I also worry about every little twinge and imagine the worst.
To try to put it into perspective- you were seen 3 months ago and were clear then. You are feeling fine. You are not experiencing pain or bleeding. Mention the bloating but I had bloating for a long time after radiotherapy and my tummy is still not completely back to how it should be nearly 2 years post treatment.
If there was a recurrence then it would only have happened very recently as you were fine 3 months ago. So if it has unexpectedly come back then early detection would make it more likely to be treatable.
I will pop a link below to a blog that I did about my last check up appointment which may help. It shows the questions I am normally asked and what to look out for.
I hope this helps a bit and I wish you well for tomorrow. If you feel talking things through would help, then please do give the support line a call. The number is below.
