I had my hysterectomy on 30th May. Today I got a phone call to make an appointment with the gynae oncology nurse for 19th June.

Should I read anything into the fact that this appointment is with a nurse rather than a doctor?

  • Hi Lauz9888. welcome to the forum and I imagine that this will be a specialist Nurse qualified in gynae oncology I also imagine they will be able to do and say as much as the  Doctor. Is it concerning  you and why is that?

  • Thanks. I'm not concerned really, I was just expecting it to be with a doctor and it surprised me. I am hoping the outcome to be that I don't need any further treatment, and I don't really mind who tells me that!

  • Hi Lauz

I would try to not read too much into it.

I would imagine that it is to check you are recovering from the surgery and to discuss any results.

The vast majority of routine appointments at my hospital are done by the specialist nursing team. When I did see the consultants- it was during chemo and during radiotherapy and before hand to get consent for those treatments.

I actually prefer the nurse team as they tend to be on time, less rushed and give you the time you need. Where there are any concerns they just refer you back to the consultant. I have always felt well looked after by my nurse team and they are all highly qualified.

I hope that your appointment goes well.

  • Update -

I had the appointment today and it's very good news.

Grade 1, stage 1A, all removed. No further treatment or check-ups needed, I just need to call the nurse if I have any kind of worrying symptoms.

They're putting me on low-dose HRT and referring me to a menopause clinic.

I can't begin to describe my relief.

Thank you all for being there.

  • That is fantastic news - time to celebrate!

  • That's wonderful news- really pleased for you.
