Sex after robotic Hysterectomy

Hi all,

Here goes! Slightly nervous about asking this question! Please be kind!

I am 10 weeks post robotic hysterectomy for grade 1A endometrial cancer. I don't need any further treatment which I am thankful for.

At 2.5 weeks post hysterectomy I had a nasty infection of my vaginal sutures which was scary but promptly treated. It did put my recovery back quite a lot and I had pelvic pain for weeks afterwards. I am now feeling much better physically.

I am contemplating having sex with my husband again, will probably wait a bit longer as I can still feel the dissolvable stitches at the top of my vagina which presumably be go soon, but am very nervous about it! Will it hurt? Will it be difficult?

Have any of you wise women been through this and be able to reassure me that it will be fine!

Thanks for reading:)

Suzie

  • Hi Suzie

Don't feel nervous, it is a very normal question.

I am sorry to hear of your infection and it is natural to worry about having sex again and whether it will uncomfortable. You have been through a cancer diagnosis, had a major operation and also had to deal with the infection.

Have you spoken to your CNS about how you are feeling? It will be something that I am sure they are often asked. I wonder if it would be a good idea to be checked that the infection has all healed inside, whether the stitches are ok and that everything looks healthy again. This might allay some of your worries. It is great that you are feeling physically better and that is a good sign.

There's some general advice here that you might also find helpful.

  • Thank you Jane,

Yes, I think I'll speak to my CNS.
