Endometrial cancer 2022

Hello everyone

I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer back in April 22, had total hysterectomy. I was told I would be monitored for the next 3 years. The first year every 3 months, second year every 4 months and third year every 6 months. However for the last two follow ups they have been following me up over the phone? I said I would prefer to be seen and examined but feel I'm being ignored. Anyone had this experience? Xxx

  • Hello Burnsey4eva

I also had my hysterectomy in April 22. I was 1b but had chemo and radiotherapy.

At my hospital it is every 3 months for the first 2 years post treatment (so treatment ended in Sept/October 2022 for me).

After Sept check up I believe I go to patient led follow up. From what I understand if there is going to be a recurrence it would be most likely by then. They said after 2 years it would be watching out for any symptoms and if I had any worries they would get me in for a check. So if I felt in anyway something was amiss, bleeding, pain, twinges even - I would get examined.

Why not email them and request that you are seen in person and if they say it is not needed, then perhaps ask why. It may be that because yours was so early and didn't need any further treatment- that they feel the odds of recurrence by now are much lower?

I myself wonder whether I may just book in with my GP practice nurse in the future for a quick look every few months- just for peace of mind

  • Hello Jane

Thank you very much for your reply. This makes sense, it is patient led that I have been placed on

  • I am also on patient led had my op in January. They said due to low risk but can call them anytime. I wasn't offered any appointments

  • rainy morning, I dont have your experience but it certainly does not sound right. did they give you a nurses phone number to call if in need.

i think you need to phone your medical team and express your worry. and demand to be seen regularly as you expect. wishing you good results and good health...

  • Hi, was your post histology result grade 1 stage 1a?

  • I had regular checkups but no symptoms, however the cancer has come back after three years.  I originally asked about having scans but they said they were not necessary unless I had symptoms.  I wish I’d pushed more now as  may have caught the recurrence sooner.  If you’re not happy with a telephone appt I’d push for an in person one, at the very least they should reassure you.  Good luck

  • Hi MRH24

I am sorry to hear of your recurrence. I am still seen in person every 12 weeks at the hospital and it is reassuring to be checked.
