It's been 4 weeks since my surgery,&I'm wondering  when I'll be able to drive?

  • From what I can gather each hospital has differing advice on this subject. My own consultant did not specify a time, she said if i could comfortably do an emergency stop I could drive short distances when I felt strong enough. As has been pointed out on previous threads you may want to check with insurance also. It was around week four for me.

  • I started getting into my car (on our driveway) a couple of days after surgery, and just sitting there pressing the pedals to see how it felt. I did this a couple of times each day, progressing to starting this engine and gently moving the car forwards and backwards on the driveway, and eventually trying the moves needed for an emergency stop. I’m not going to say on here how soon I drove, but it was initially only very short distances within my small town. I built up gradually to bigger distances and busier roads.

  • Hi I drove after five weeks after my post-operative check up as everything was healing well To be honest I felt well enough to drive before then. No issues with emergency stops but a bit stiffer in turning round when reversing back into my garage. I contacted my insurance company to make sure I was still covered to drive.

  • Thanks,I'm seeing the specialist  next Thurs for my biopsy results so I'll ask him..fair play to you for reversing into your garage..I couldn't  do that and been driving 28yrsRofl

  • Good morning

I was told 6 weeks - can't remember who told me that. I would ask your surgeon and also check with your insurance company. You've covered all bases then.
