I'm now getting so worried about the post  op appointment

did they get it all out ?

what now  etc etc ?

Do you get a appointment or phone call

not sure what's worse

Been 2 weeks next monday

  • My consultant was super organised and prebooked my results appointment along with my hysterectomy date - so he told me hysterectomy 22nd January 2022 and results appointment 4th February 2022 (as the MDT meet on a Friday morning. I’ve not heard of other hospitals being so organised though. So for me just 14 days.

  • Hi mollysue

Try not to worry too much.

My results were by telephone 3 1/2 weeks post surgery. I didn't go into the hospital until about 10 days after that and it was for appointment to check healing and talk about chemo arrangements.

You can ask them to call you with the post op pathology or arrange to go in for an appointment. I opted for the phone call as it was quicker and moved things along for me.

It can vary between hospitals and whether you know sooner or later has no bearing on the results and if you have to wait a bit longer it doesn't necessarily mean bad news- just that the hospital is busy.

  • Just wish I could go and find out as such a concern

did they get it alll out ?

gyno said it went well after op and what stage it will end up stage 1a. Grade 1 on mri before op

  • I expect you will hear something within the next couple of weeks. It just takes time for them to look at everything and discuss at the MDT meeting. At my hospital the MDT meeting was once a week on Thursday- so if it wasn't back by then- it was another week. But phone calls tended to happen on Thursday pm.

My surgeon saw me a few hours after the op and said it was all contained. He said it went well, but I suppose he was talking about the actual hysterectomy being straight forward.

Oncology nurse came round the following am and said he shouldn't have said that as no one can be sure till the pathology comes back. She was right as although stage 1, I needed chemo and radiotherapy.

I think the surgeons concentrate on the actual surgery of removing the uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries and their job is to remove that. The oncologists have to them look at the medical details/pathology results that are only available later. They can find out so much more from the pathology than the original biopsy and scans- that can give a general idea but not the whole picture.

I am sure you will find out soon, and no point in worrying too much until you know what you are facing. Concentrate on your recovery and then if you do need any further treatment to mop up any stray cells then you will be as fit as possible before it needs to happen.

  • My surgeon is also my onconlogist too

and she just came round after op and said  all went well

i I did see letter to my gp  the next day saying all tubes and ovary's normal and uterus surface perineal normal so that's alFingers crossedhopeful Fingers crossedI suppose

  • Was your pre op  stage and grade before op the same afterwards in histology  Jane ?

  • So to me that sounds that when the surgeon removed it all that visually they could not see anything abnormal. Mine was the same, all seemed ok - its now just a matter of waiting for the detailed pathology which is the last bit- where they look it much more detail, under the microscope etc. I hope you hear something very soon.

  • I was not given a grade before the op. I was told adenocarcinoma as a type. I was told likely stage 1-2. After op it was stage 1. (If there are cells in the cervix- it would mean stage 2- stage 2 is still early stage and contained) And I was told it wasn't adenocarcinoma but a different type.

So it was similar but the detail post op meant further treatment.

The biopsy looks at a small sample and from that they can give a provisional grade- just by looking to see how different the cancer cells are from the normal cells. The pathology looks at more tissue and can give a greater detail.

With the staging the MRI or CT would hopefully pick up any spread so that's how they give you the provisional stage. So from the MRI or CT they would be able to provisionally say for instance whether they believe it is in the womb (stage 1-2), whether it has come out from the womb but is still in the area (stage 3) or whether there is something going on outside of the pelvis (stage 4) For the stage to change for you it would be if they find any minute cells that are very small  or if there is something unexpected/or changed from the time of the original CT to the surgery.

So like I said- mine was similar preop to post op but just more detail I suppose.

    Hope this is clearer

  • I had my hysterectomy on January 20th and my histology appointment has been made for February 23rd. It is quite a wait, especially as I am in the middle of buying a house and wondering if I should pull out and make life a little simpler for the future. I would mind them actually giving me the results on the phone just so I can make some plans. I am not in my own home as I have travelled to another hospital for treatment. I could make some more long term plans to be here and need really to sort all of this out swiftly now. I am really aware, having had a full abdominal hysterectomy, just how fragile I am and it would be so lovely to be in my own home.

i hope you get an appointment soonest. X

  • I had mine in the 15 th so hope you are getting better each day Roxanne
