  • Hi mollysue

My post op pathology came through about 3 1/2 weeks post surgery. The consultant phoned me with the results. My first appointment in person was around 5 weeks post surgery.

After this I was sent a letter to come in to discuss chemotherapy. This was about a week and a half later. The chemo started 6 weeks post surgery. This appointment was to check me after the surgery and to talk about the results and the further treatments needed.

If you have a preference to get results via phone or would rather go in then if you let your CNS know they will usually do what you prefer. I had mine via phone as I knew this was the quickest way. The phone call was to confirm stage and grade and said which treatments were needed. I then had a call from the CNS the following day to make sure I understood and to give me a chance to ask questions.

With the results- it can vary a lot between hospitals and its just how busy they are. Sometimes they come through quicker and sometimes take a while longer- it can be frustrating waiting to find out but if you do have to wait it doesn't mean its good or bad- it just depends on how busy they are.

  • Hi Mollysue, my surgeon said he would call me with the results around two weeks after the hysterectomy, he also said he I would get an appointment for another hospital if I needed radiotherapy.  As it was I got a call around 11 days following surgery from one of the consultants nurses saying no further treatment was necessary and I would get an appointment in the post to see the consultant. This appointment was for around 5 weeks after my surgery, the consultant explained that my diagnosis was still the same stage IA grade 1 . He also explained he was putting me on the patient indicated follow up and that I would get an appointment with a CNS who would explain everything for me.. This appointment was around 10 weeks after surgery, she explained the plan to me and gave me all the details I needed to contact them if I had any symptoms that worried me, she said it would be 5 years before I could be discharged and that they would write to me every year with symptoms to look out for and this is what has happened. I have called them a couple of times and they have either reassured me or on one occasion sent me an appointment to see the consultant again, this was very quick within two weeks, it was all ok though.
