Stage and grade after hysterectomy

I had an MRI and CT scan pre op and was given a predicted stage 1a grade 3 diagnosis. You will get a definitive stage and grade after the operation when the surgeon gets the full histology report. Post op I was advised that both my stage and grade remained the same as initially predicted. 

My predicted grade was Stage 1b grade 2.

My post op results were stage 1b grade 1 with LVSI

How did your surgery go , how long were you in hosp

I had my surgery at about midday and was back on the ward by 5pm.  I stayed in overnight and was discharged early afternoon the following day.  The surgery was fine.  I had an epidural beforehand and something called TIVA, which meant all the anaesthetic I had was intravenous.  This was to lessen my chances of feeling sick afterwards.  I only experienced mild discomfort afterwards and was up and about as soon as my catheter was removed the next morning.

All in all, I was amazed by how well I felt!  I know how anxious you must be feeling, but honestly I think you’ll find the experience much easier than you’re imagining.  Everyone in the hospital will be so kind, and they want the absolute best for you so they do all they can to make you feel relaxed and comfortable.

Not sure if everyone has a epidural as not been told about that

mollysue, this is another thing you can ask your Cancer Nurse Specialist when you call them. As you know, quite a few of us on here didn’t have epidurals.

I don’t think everybody has an epidural, but I had it because of the TIVA.  I am allergic to some of the anaesthetic gases , which can make me very sick and that’s why I had it.  I don’t think it’s the norm.

Some hospitals do and some don't. My hospital recommends them for initial pain relief after surgery. Mine was put in just before I was given the anaesthetic but within 2 minutes I was out for the count. When I woke up I could feel it wearing off and I could walk around the bed within a couple of hours.

When I asked my consultant about epidurals, he said they only offer them to people who they think might need them and that he didn’t think I would! I think he meant as mine was low grade and the tiny cancerous polyp had already been removed so it was basically just a straight hysterectomy.
