Findings

Had radical hysterectomy 11 days ago.  My follow up is in 11 days from now.  The oncologist that performed the surgery already tood me I would need chemo and radiation so that is what it is.

I have a long description in my online medical chart ..but this is the part I find confusing .
Their findings ...no 1 and no 3 seem to be contradicting each other?

Findings
  1. There was a globular cervix with no obvious parametrial invasion and no invasion into the vagina or into the anterior or posterior fornix.
  2. The sentinel node had delayed mapping on the left and unclear mapping on the right. No periaortic lymph nodes were identified.
  3. There was large volume disease into the left parametrium. Resection margin was wide of the gross disease.

  • Hello Nit.Thu57

I understand this as the large volume of disease into the left parametrium (The parametrium (called cervical stroma in some texts) lies in front of the cervix and extends laterally between the layers of the broad ligaments) has not  spread or invaded the cervix or vagina.

But I am not a medical professional so I would ask a nurse by calling the number below bottom on this page and they hopefully will go through the report with you to help understand. Take care xx

  • Yes that's how I understand that as well but the first point says o" ther was bvious parametrial invasion". So this contradicts the third point.

  • Hello Nit.Thu57

I hope that you are recovering well from your surgery.

It does sound confusing to a non medical person. Are you able to contact your CNS and ask for it to be explained? Or perhaps give the Support Line a call tomorrow and speak to one of the nurses. They should be able to help explain it.

  • Also if it has not spread, why do they refer to it as "large volume disease"
