Evening all,
Hope you are all doing well, I have been quiet on here for a while as have been trying to deal with the mental side effects of cancer and how life changes after treatment has finished. I had 6 sessions of counselling through macmillan which really helped and have spoken to my doctor and she has put me on some medication to help. The time has come for my 3 month check up and my ct scan is booked for Thursday, I am dreading it and really don’t want to go. I had a lovely honeymoon last week doing a road trip in Scotland with Stacie and was so happy but now back to reality and dreading the next 6 weeks. X
Hi Rach- I understand- my first 3 month check up is tomorrow and not looking forward to it either. I hope yours goes ok and puts your mind at rest
Jane
Rach_E and jane2511 good luck to you both with your 3 month check ups. I remember my first being very nervous about it and its OK to feel nervous lots on our minds we worry about recurrence or it getting worse. But I do know as more check ups went by and me being still clear it got less nerve wrecking.
Sending gentle bear hugs

Rach_E , I am so happy the counselling has helped you and I am glad you have Stacie to support you . I am glad you had a lovely honeymoon and your road trip to Scotland you clearlyhad a lovely time. I hope the weather was kind and did you manage to see the northern lights while you both were there. It does depend on activity and cloud cover would love to see them myself, but they are magical. With check ups and the unknown of the future I found it helpful to look at it day by day. It seemed less overwhelming and as clear check ups go by it gets easier, I still worry of course its natural to worry about it coming back or getting worse. I know with my own experience of really annoying health issues that have taken the shine of being cancer free away because of being frustrated about it, I have my art and I have been doing these virtual challenges where you can set a time to complete a journey and get a medal on completion its really helped me to be motivated but to know I am doing everything possible to stay healthy and sometimes that's the most important thing you can do. I have also enjoyed looking at maps of the places I am virtually traveling and pretending to be there. So maybe look for something you can both do together to challenge yourselves will also help. Having something fun and rewarding can help our minds, our mental health really is important to keep strong but never be afraid to ask for help.
Good luck on Thursday and sending gentle bear hugs
