Feeling a bit lost and confused.

Hi. I'm new to here and need a bit of advice and probably worrying over nothing.  I went to the doctor just before Christmas with peri-menopausal symptoms (44 years old) and I was referred to gnae and seen within a few weeks. At the appointment I had and internal examination, a swab, an pelvic ultrasound and a transvaginal ultrasound. My womb lining was 16mm and had an appt to return for a colposcopy and then a hysteroscopy with a biopsy. I also have to return for another transvaginal ultrasound as they couldn't get a clear view of my ovaries etc.

The colposcopy was fine, but they were unable to gain full access for a hysteroscopy and just proceeded to do the biopsy and were also unable to fit a coil and given the mini pill for very heavy bleeding.   I have had watery brown discharge since the procedure and now watery bloody discharge. The biopsy was 4.5 weeks ago and when I phoned to ask when I would get the results I was told anything up to 5 weeks even for a an urgent.

Of course I'm a bit worried, as just want the 'all clear' and be hopefully treated for peri menopause.

Has anyone else been through this.

PMH

Endometriosis

4x c-sections

2x Laparoscopy's and ablations

1x laparoscopic adhesionlysis, hysteroscopy and ablation.

  • Hi Catnip78,

Sorry to hear you're going through this, I know how stressful the waiting is. I'm currently going through the same thing, 41 years old, very heavy bleeding and thought I was going through perimenopause, went to GP who referred me for transvaginal ultrasound. That showed thickened endometrium of 16mm and a large cyst on my right ovary. Been referred to gynae but living in Portugal it all takes time (referred in October on urgent referral and got date to be seen end of Feb). It's the waiting that's the hardest, but hopefully your results will be ok. Did they take bloods to check your hormone levels for perimenopause? Mine came back normal so not yet going through that.

I hope you get some answers soon

  • Thank you so much for replying. My bloods are all normal for peri menopause. That's a nightmare for you, for waiting for so long. Its hard when the health professionals are so blaise and don't let you know whats happening. Please let me know how you get on.

  • Hopefully your results will come back clear and they can start you on HRT if needed for your perimenopause. That's so tough that the wait is so long for your results. Unfortunately they're just so understaffed here that even though the Gynae team agreed my referral was urgent it's just such a long waiting list. I'm just hoping that the cyst was causing the bleeding as I think it may have burst in January and my bleeding has now returned to normal.

Will let you know how I get on, you too and if you need to talk I'm happy to

  • Hi Catnip78,

How are you getting on, have you got your results yet? Hope the waits not driving you mad.

I've just had my appointment with Gynae, smear done and another transvaginal ultrasound, luckily the thickening of my endometrium they saw last time is no longer there, but unfortunately both ovaries enlarged, not sure if it's cysts or not so been sent for lots more bloods to check for ovarian cancer, been started on the pill and got to go for another transvaginal ultrasound in 2 months. More waiting but at least the worry of endometrial cancer is gone, even if they're now checking for ovarian. Not so worried about that as not had any symptoms of ovarian cancer, so hoping it's just cysts.

I hope all's ok with you

  • Hi CS1981.

I'm glad that things are moving in the right direction, even if you are now being checked for ovarian ca. I have phoned my consultant  a few times, only to be told that my biopsy still hasn't been reported on as there is back log. It's been over 6 weeks now and I'm just about to start a new job.

I have another transvaginal scan booked for the 8th of March, but was hoping that my biopsy results would be back by then. I was started on the mini pill at my biopsy appt but haven't stopped bleeding in 6 weeks. Getting fed up now. I will let you know as soon as I hear anything, and please keep in touch with your journey too.

  • That's awful, I know they're busy but it's so difficult with all the waiting. Hope you get the results soon.

Hope all goes well with the new job, not easy with this hanging over you.  Take care
