I had a total hysterectomy  for endometrial cancer 18 months ago. I was very lucky, caught it early and surgery sorted it out.

I have been confirmed to have lynch syndrome (increased genetic risk of certain cancers), so my family and I will have regular screening.

I went through a low period, feeling a bit confused, tired yet fraudulent because I didn't have to have chemotherapy and then scared for the future. On top of that, my husband had not been very supportive and I was resentful

I'm a nurse by 'trade' and now a nurse lecturer. From my experiences of caring for people I thought about how fear and negative thoughts can make you feel tired and unwell; I decided to use all that energy I was wasting on worry and anger in a more useful positive way - FOR MYSELF!!

The pictures below taken by Steve, my trainer who has supported me, show what happens when you fight back for yourself. At 63 years old, I think I'm probably healthier and fitter than I've ever been. so, if you're sad, lost, lonely, scared. Remember - YOU matter!! Take care of yourself and the rest can work itself out in the end. Sending love and positive thoughts.

  • I absolutely love this and you look phenomenal  and so strong! Thanks for sharing  Maybe after all our mental health chat on the forum this week we need some kind of positivity and encouragement thread going on to share our achievements after surgery, no matter how small?

  • Sounds like a fantastic idea!
I should also have said that I accessed Macmillan counselling 3months post op. This made a huge difference and I encourage women to send them a message if they can’t face making a call xx

  • Trudi-well done, you are in inspiration to us all and especially to those who are newly diagnosed to show that life can be good again.

    xx
