After having a total hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oopohoectomy this has now put me into surgical menopause. Due to cancer I know I cannot have HRT and also have to avoid soya and so cannot take any supplements I have seen.
I have struggled with insomnia and just wondering for any possible recommendations
Thanks in advance
This is interesting. I am not able to eat dairy products so have eaten soya for many many years. Nobody has ever mentioned dietary changes to me.
Yes me too Little Runner. So much information about nutrition to "beat" cancer or stop it recurring, it is hard to know what to believe sometimes.
I’m trying to choose my words carefully but I think I’ll just say that in the medical world there seem to be very different professional opinions on some things, and I think the topic of soya and soya products is one of them. I can’t drink cows’ milk and have drunk (chocolate!) soya milk for many years and neither my gynae consultant nor my oncologist have told me to stop it. So I’d suggest doing your own research and making up your own mind. I went through the menopause many years before I was diagnosed with cancer and got through it with a herbal remedy called Agnus Castus (Chasteberry) but I’d advise checking with your GP before taking it to make sure it’s suitable and appropriate for you.
You may want to read around taking HRT as the guidelines are changing. Here is one article:
Thanks for posting this article. Interesting stuff.
Hi CD22. I've never had any discussions with hormones as I currently have ovaries left in after hysterectomy but I have struggled with insomnia since this started and pretty sure this is menopausal now. I self prescribe 5HTP and have been taking this for over a year now. Getting to sleep is no longer a problem. I wake up fairly early still but that's after a good 7 hours. I was prescribed all sorts of anti-depressants for insomnia problems which I did NOT get on well with.
