Afternoon Ladies,
Hope your all doing well, I was supposed to have my 3 month ct scan and check up a few weeks ago but couldn’t because of my weight. My macmillan nurse called last week to ask me to go in for my height and weight as clatterbridge say their machines are bigger. Had a call from clatterbridge today for a phone appointment on Monday at 1.30, my anxiety has now kicked off as I don’t know what to expect at this appointment and it is with a different oncologist as my normal one is off sick. I know I shouldn’t be stressing because they can only tell me yes or no for the scan but I’m dreading it. X
Hi Rach I can understand how your worries and anxiety can take over. I should have had my 3 month check at the end of September but there is a delay in getting an oncology appointment. Hopefully when you speak to Clatterbridge on Monday they will arrange an early scan date for you but if not or if it is not for several weeks why not ask if you can at least have the full blood test including CA125 marker. The results from blood tests come through quickly and may help to put your mind at rest a bit. xx
I’m going to ask about the blood test when the oncologist calls as my cns told me for the type of cancer I had I there isn’t a blood test that would work. I feel like they are going to tell me I can’t have a scan until I have lost some weight otherwise I think they would have just booked the scan. X
I think its still worth checking again about the blood test. I was told by my consultant the first time i asked him about having one that with serous the CA125 isn't possible but on the next appointment with him he said that he wouldn't scan me but use the CA125 test as an indicator, he said that a lot of consultants don't like to use them as they aren't always conclusive but that he is happy to use it for me.Funny how he gave me two different answers.
Thinking of you, let us know how it goes x
Hi again Rach. As Robin27 has said oncologists have differing opinions about cancer markers but mine agreed that with high grade serous it was useful to check the CA125 level. Blood tests will also be checking on your white/red blood count etc so can be an indicator of how things are going generally. Take care and I know that it is easier said than done but try not to worry too much. xx
Fingers crossed Rach_E. I hope everything goes well Monday, there is nothing wrong of course with callling your cns and asking questions about the blood tests and everything to its understanding and they know its so important ant to be kept completely informed about your care. I understand how stressful the unknown is, i can definitely attest to that again at the moment over other health issues but i know for me good or bad i just want an answer, an answer that you can then digest, it’s difficult to do that if you dont know why and what. Good luck for Monday, sending gentle bear hugs

Hi all
When I queried how accurate the CA 125 blood test was I was reassured that my levels were good but I pointed out although they were in the normal range (<35) they'd been increasing by 25% each test. They also look out for lower RBC indicating anaemia. In my case although the liver function tests were good there was spike on another test related to the liver which raised issues.
I also seem to remember the CA125 blood test is used more to indicate Ovarian cancer.
Hope all goes well with scan on Monday!
Big hugs, Barb xx

I feel I possibly won’t be getting the scan until I have lost a bit of weight as it is just a phone call on Monday but think because it’s a different doctor it’s making me more anxious. I was able to have my scan after treatment finished in May so and I know I have put a little bit of weight on since then but obviously enough so I can’t have the scan done. I have had routine bloods done recently at my gp to check my diabetes which included LFT, UE all that stuff and as far as I know they all came back fine I have never been given the results. I have been anemic for a while now, been on iron tablets for over a year now I think it is. X
What did they say yesterday Rach_E? I hope everything is OK? Thinking of you and sending gentle bear hugs
