I’m home - surgery done

Hello lovelies,

I’m out the other side and home after surgery Thursday. It’s all went well and was keyhole with removal vaginally.

My care afterwards was appalling, so much so I came home last night as there was no way I was being left on my own in there another night. The deputy manager on ward visited me and apologised and seems I wasn’t the only one who received bad care - holding back meds, not emptying my catheter and shouting at me for being sick even when they refused me anti sickness and didn’t bring a bowl.

Things I found helpful - took in loads of small bottles of water, a soft blanket from my son and plain snacks along with the cups of fruit, mint tea and my own pillow.

in my own bed now recovering, thank you to marmite for being there for me when I was so desperate x

  • Good to know you have escaped to the safety of your own home. What an experience! Make sure you get a contact number for your CNS/nurse (in case you have questions over the coming days) and a date for your follow-up appointment.

  • Hi I'm so sorry to hear you had a bad time with aftercare in the hospital, and that you are safely home now.  I was in for 4 nights and the aftercare was dreadful, but I couldn't go home any sooner as I had an infection.  I was made to feel like a nuisance even though I asked for nothing and only buzzed my buzzer once and that was to tell them a lady opposite with dementia had climbed out of her secured bed!  I hope you are on the mend and feeling much better soon.

    Hugs, Lesley xx

  • Bless you Alex and so happy that you’re home. I’d recommend giving feedback to your hospital’s PALS team as that’s unacceptable - you should be able to do this online via an email or online form on the website. How did you sleep last night?

  • Thanks everyone. Finally got some sleep last night from 11pm-2am then from around 4-8am. Kids and hubby been looking after me and I’ve just stayed in bed but getting up regularly to go toilet and I managed a quick shower. Feel strange but it’s early days.

thanks for everyone’s comments, I will be sure to follow up x

  • Hello Alicat, How are you feeling now?

  • Hi Wave I’m ok, some days better than others. I’m pretty sure I have a UTI as have all the symptoms and I’m also getting blood when I wipe after I pee and I know it’s coming from my pee hole. My GP has given more more of the antibiotics I am already on.

My incisions a healing well, tummy is sore from the injections. I can now sleep on my side so that’s really helping!

    thanks for asking x

  • Hi Alex, I didn’t do the injections (opted out) but I’ve seen ladies posting on here saying they can be done in the outer thigh too if that helps. Sorry you seem to have a UTI - have you done a pee test?

  • Hi @Alicat. That's correct, after my tummy was really bruised and sore I did the jabs in the top of my thighs.

Hopefully the antibiotics will work and clear up the problem soon.

    Hugs, Barb xx

  • Hi, no I can’t get a doctors appointment. I’m going to call my nurse tomorrow and ask her about it. The GP that the antibiotics I’m already on are strong so he gave me more of those and morphine (which I’m going to stay away from) no one seems to want to know really.

I heard about the thigh too but that’s just another part of me that’s going to be sore! X
