Hi all

I had total hysterectomy in June as had FIGO stage 1a Endometrial cancer its was half inch into muscle. At my review Doctor said everything healing well took all cancer with hysterectomy.

They have said no follow up, no other treatment is needed which does bother me as I know other women have a follow up.

I had already gone through change but hot flushes are back, constipation and terrible pain when having sex.

Any advise or suggestions from anyone be helpful

  • Hi Bella, I have had limited follow-up. I had a couple of appointments soon after surgery, then I was told if I have a problem get in touch but I do not have regular appointments. I had surgery at age 56 at which time I thought I was already all done with that menopause stuff but a few weeks later I began to get hot flushes again. I can't offer any explanations or solutions but I think it is something that we should be warned about beforehand. I think I got memory problems too but I can't be sure!

  • Yeah I think they should tell us all that might come back. I get very irritable too with partner but he's supportive good job really.

Memory can be part of menopause stuff too so probably from the hysterectomy it does weird things too us.

  • Hi Bella, I was the same stage as you, had my hysterectomy in August 2019, and was put on the patient initiated follow up, I have a number to call if I have any problems. The same happened to me the return of hot flushes, though they have mostly finished now. I also had a couple of migraines which I was plagued with during the menopause, though only the disturbed vision not the headaches. I put all this down to having my ovaries removed, stirring up any lingering hormones!

  • Yeah I think it's because they took everything so Hopefully they will subside. I was on patient initiated pathway but my doctor didn't say I could contact if needs be, my clinic letter seems to pass it all to GP.

I feel really dumped with no one to go to with my feelings at times

  • Bellaj, when you had your diagnosis did you have contact with a CNS team?

  • Hi Bellaj

I had the same stage and grade as you. I'm 56 and had my TRH and BSO on August 5th. I was still having periods and now I've hit the surgical menopause head on! Hot flushes, crying at the smallest thRoflg happy or sad...I think the anxiety you are feeling is a normal symptom anxiety around your whole experience you've had some time to reflect and think... thinking can be dangerous Rofl Give your CNS a call or the macmillan helpline I'm sure it will help.

    Hi Bellaj,

Sorry to hear you are struggling at the minute. As Jane said I think this is a normal reaction after all that has happened to you. Try to be reassured that your surgeon is confident that all the cancer was contained and removed.

Hot flushes - it was explained to me by a nurse that after menopause there can still be hormones in your system. After surgery, there are none and this is the reason they come back. Is there a reason for the constipation? After chemo, I get this and use laxatives and suppositories. Try prunes or prune juice. Could be worth seeing GP if there is no reason for it or the pain after sex  (have you tried lubricant available at chemists?).

I hope things improve for you soon,

    A x
