Hi,  I'm there weeks post total robotic hysterectomy and BSO. My question.... is it normal to still be bleeding vaginally at this point and if so how long can it go on for?

Thanks

  • Hi . I know some ladies do bleed. I didn't, hopefully one of the ladies that did may get back to you after reading this post. Have a word with the ward sister if you can. Unfortunately you won't be able get hold of your CNS as it's a Bank Holiday weekend. If it's a heavy bleed call 111, they'll decide if you need to visit A&E.

Let us know how things go, hugs, Barb xx

  • Hi Jane66, I had very light bleeding which started around two weeks after my op and continued until around 8 weeks after surgery. This was only really just smears and I managed with just a panty liner! I mentioned it to my consultant who I saw five weeks after surgery and he wasn't concerned.

  • Hi Jane, I’ve only just read your last updates on your profile - so sorry you’ve had these extra issues. In view of those I’d suggest calling the ward if you’re concerned as you probably won’t get your CNS till Tuesday. I didn’t bleed at all after but mine wasn’t robotic and your op was more complicated than mine.  I’m confused though - I thought you said to me that it was converted to open surgery?

  • You aren't confused,  the hysterectomy and bso was completed robotically then the registrar was left to suture up my vaginal cuff and at that point dropped the needle, it was looked for and not found so they opened me up purely to locate that needle.

  • Hi Carolina61

Thank you for your reply. I have had vaginal bleeding since the surgery but over the l last couple of days it had allowed to almost nothing just when wiping. Yesterday I went for a 22 minute walk mid afternoon,  I uncomfortable all evening.  When I woke up this morning I had bled like I did in the beginning and had some cramping so it's definitely not what I'd call a heavy bleed,  my follow up appointment is a week tomorrow so unless it gets worse I'll wait until then. I'm reassured by your reply.
