I have my first appt with the consultant tomorrow. That said she called me last week. Told me that the cancer appears to be confined to the womb. Her plan is to fit a hormone releasing IUD and allow me some time to lose weight ahead of surgery. Has anyone else gone down this route who would be happy to share their story?

  • Hi Sorry no-one's been back to answer your question but I'm sure I've seen older posts where this has happened and ladies wanted to lose weight prior to surgery. Try typing in Mirena Coil into search bar at the top of the page, you may find some answers.

  • Hi Fifewifey,

I have no experience of this, but was told to lose weight when they found out I had Cholesterol problems when I was 57. I began to look at food labels and anything that contained less than 4% fat I could eat. Believe me, that cuts out an awful lot of lovely food!! But I did manage to lose weight just by looking at the fat content of things. I also cut out sugar as far as I could. I now use saccharin's in coffee, and I go for Diet lemonade. You get used to the taste, and know when somethings naughty! Good luck. xx

Thanks for your reply Barb. Transpired that she wasn't able to fit the IUD in clinic, so just going to crash diet before surgery mid January.

Hi thank you for your reply. I think she has given me an impossible target of 16 kg to lose in about 5 weeks, but will just have to do my best. I went to supermarket today and of course the shelves are groaning under the weight of Christmas goodies...but no mince pies in my basket. LOL

Thanks for the steer to look at food labels. Xx

  • My nurse also told me that if you were naughty for a day or two, to get back to the diet after that. It certainly works. If I put weight on at weekend I can lose it during the week. You just have to learn to keep watching it!!

My husband has just had an operation for bowel cancer and has lost a lot of weight. I'm trying to do the opposite with him, pumping calories in where I can!! He is so used to having fat free stuff he is now not keen a full fat!! You can't win!!!

I will certainly be watching the weight and will just have to see how it goes. I am sorry your husband has had his own health worries, but hope he is on the mend now. Having low calorie meals on your plate and high calorie meals on your hubby's must be fun... hope it doesn't cause any jealousy. Slight smile
