Radiotherapy and Crying

Sorry to bother you all. I've had a total radical hysterectomy, 4 rounds of chemo and have completed 20 out of 25 radiotherapy with 2 brachytherapy to go.

Apart from some diahorrea, I've not had any adverse side effects, except that for the last 4 or 5 days I have been crying all the time. Just can't seem to get happy at all. I've been on antidepressants since the start of all this.

I wondered if anyone had a similar reaction.

  • Hi . You're not alone in this I have read somewhere else someone writing the same thing. I think it's massive shock reaction to what we've been through - a totally unexpected diagnosis followed by surgery. The relief that the end of treatment is in sight just releases a pressure cooker of emotions.

I sailed through all of my op and brachy with no depression, nor anything else. If anything it was like I was looking in from the outside it wasn't happening to me, it was someone else. The only time I ever cracked was after my last Brachy session. I just about got to my car in the carpark and the floodgates opened. I couldn't drive for about 30 minutes until I contained myself. Passers by gave me strange looks but no-one knocked on the window. I suppose that's par for the course in a hospital car park.
