Hi all
Im am shortly due to have my first 3 month examination since surgery for a total hysterectomy (along with an added complication of a tear during surgery). Thankfully no follow up treatment was needed as the cancer was Stage 1a and contained within the removed organs.
Whilst I have been managing the pain within my surgery areas with cocodamol or paracetamol, in the last week or so I have been having major back pain, which is now been also joined by the most horrendous pain in my hips. This is making it difficult for me to sleep, and first thing in the morning to move about until it eases off a little. Additionally, any prolonged lying or sitting is also impacted.
I am trying to keep movement going as I know it is a big part of recovery, but I am finding things harder with the added pain as my tummy is still sore in areas, and limits some of what I try to do. Additionally my tummy still feels bloated at times and "moves around" (I know this is some of the effects we are advised of)
I am going to raise this issue at my checkup but I wondered if anyone else has experienced this ? As usual I think our minds all race off in the wrong direction when we dont know what is happening, just trying to get some reassurance and suggestions on how to ease it as I dont want to be continually taking strong painkillers
Thanks D
Hi D,
I had my op on May 25th. I don't have extreme pain but have had pain and tenderness since that is made worse by carrying anything heavy on that side. I raised the issue of tenderness on my right side at my appointment on 28th July. I was advised to wait 3 months as they would then decide what to do if it was still the same. I was due to see them this coming Wednesday but unfortunately a friend who came to fix a broken socket has tested positive for covid and I am going to have to cancel.
Since the 28th I feel that the pain and tenderness has spread to my back and hip. I was told my bowel was very stuck together when I spoke to the consultant after my op so am wondering if it is to do with that.
I had trouble sleeping for quite some time as I usually sleep on my side. I found that sleeping with my legs over a V shaped pillow helped with the pain as it didn't pull my stomach so much.
I hope you get some answers at your appointment.
Hi Amycdi
I have been trying to not do any heavy lifting and usually if anything is slightly too much i get a warning so stop. Like you i have always been a side sleeper and never adjusted to sleeping on my back, the back pain is something more recent in the last couple of weeks, I have tried the pillow under legs (slightly eased the tummy in early days), the stacked pillows etc but nothing is helping me get proper sleep, or ease the pain. My bowel appears fine as far as i know.
Im sorry you are having to cancel your appointment as I know its the last thing we want to do, sadly Covid is still very much present - hopefully it hasnt passed on to you.
Thank you for taking the time to respond and lets see what I get advised
