Has anyone else experienced this please? I am already post menopausal (54) and had a hysterectomy following a grade 1, stage 1a cancer diagnosis. My surgery was 14 weeks ago and I suddenly feel a bit rubbish and it’s as if I’ve had a sudden drop in hormones. My menopause wasn’t too bad before but I’m experiencing feelings of nausea, dizziness, fatigue and very dry mouth which have all come on in the last week. Is it to be expected that your hormone levels will go down further when you lose your ovaries and could it take this long for there to be an effect? Thanks

  • Hi Phoenix, I  can understand what you mean. I had a late menopause at 56 and was then diagnosed with cancer stage 1A grage 1 at 58, following  My hysterectomy I started to get ocular migraines  which I had had while going through the menopause, these didn't  last long I only had a couple! I  also started to  get a few hot flushes  which had virtually stopped  before my hysterectomy.  I put this all down to  having my ovaries removed, storing up any lingering hormones! I  am more or less alright now it will be  two years since my surgery in August.

    Take care.

    Thanks Carolina

  • Not just me then! I had TLH and BSO at 56, post menopause (or so I thought). My periods had stopped a few years before. Then 3 weeks after surgery the hot flushes started again. I assumed this meant my ovaries had still been active in some way right up until they were removed (kicking and screaming?). I also had brain-fog, not sure if that was the shock of having cancer or whether it was hormonal. The hot flushes carried on for a couple of years. Nothing severe in my experience but I felt very hacked off at having a 2nd menopause.

  •  Hi Phoenix66. Sorry to read you're feeling under the weather. It might be a good idea to have a chat with your CNS or failing that your GP.

I was long post menopausal so can't offer any help, sorry.

You could ask the advice of Ask a Nurse here on the forum (just click on the link) but you might have a day or two's wait before getting a reply.

    Sending hugs, Barb x
