Was going to have my hysterectomy next week. Got a call if I could bring it a week forward. I was willing for that to happen. Cancelled all my shifts at work for 2 months. On the day of operation got a call to say its  cancelled, I was unable able to cope with the cancellation. Phone them about the original date for next it too is cancelled I'm confused. Asked why it's because of covid.  Don't know if and when it will happen, I feel I'm back at stage one I'm so stressed out. My head is a mess just when I had it sorted out. I know it's only stage one cancer of the womb. Has this happened to anyone, how long did it take for you to get another date.

  • Hello ,

Aww no I am really disappointed for you, no wonder your feeling very stressed out. It would of indeed helped if some kind of explanation was given to you. It is perhaps down to covid I know there is a bit of a post code lottery at the moment with some cancer treatments being cancelled I know our local hospitals have been saying that they would need to cancel all operations including cancer. That's a no good situation I realise sadly covid has overstretched some hospitals but I also feel its important to fully inform effected patients, and ensure cancer treatments keep running. I really hope your not waiting too long but I would definitely keep on prodding them and maybe its possible they may want you to isolate for a timr beforehand I know a few ladies have had to do this. Its not great when you are trying to rearrange work however I am sure they should have some understanding by now of the very difficult situation that is a forever changing situation that they should be able to accommodate a possible last minute operation. Not sure if you have done this already but let the hospital know your willing to except last minute operation slots as and when they came available. I feel fortunate that my operation was a few years ago before all the issues with covid but I do really feel for you.

Sending you a big supportive Bear hug your way.

    Hello Sunshine122,

I am really sorry to hear this, I can relate to this in someway too.

I was told early stages and had mentally prepped,  organised work, isolated etc only to arrive in theatre admissions to be told I was covid positive.

It is very stressful and the mental preparation left me tired and angry....but there was a silver lining...

I had done the waiting so I knew what I had to so again, the nerves went away and I was just counting down the days...I had to wait about 7 weeks for it again.

As much as is frustrating,  it is totally out of our hands due to covid.  I suppose some calm came from the fact that I suppose they knew that it was early days, that a small time delay wouldn't make much difference to the outcome...even though until the results are in I won't know..

I had surgery on Wed and came home Thursday.

Small and often is my motto for recovery...I am determined that this blip in the road will not define me.

If anything...for me...makes me more determined than ever! Lol.

The ladies on here are amazing. All at different times of their journey, a wealth of experience and information...and yep...each stage so far had been true to their experiences.

Windeeze tablets have been my saviour. After having keyhole the air they pump into you gets stuck ....under your diaphragm ,shoulder and it needs a way out....it made me feel Like I had just cracked a rib and couldn't get enough air in...2 days of windeeze and it's gone.

Also....I found holding a towel over my middle when I went to the toilet for a wee or a poo helped the pressure. Drink lots of water to flush out the concoction of drugs they give you when under...helped me feel less groggy quicker.

You will do this...and those pesky waiting lists will be moved and it won't be long xxxx

  • Hi Sunshine,

This sort of being messed around happened to me, well before Covid.

They gave me a date Aug 15th. 2 weeks previous to this I got a phone call to go in for a pre med on a Friday with the operation on the Tuesday!!! I had no bag packed, no decent nightie, no pads, etc, etc. I went to the hospital on the Friday and spent all day there having blood tests, and chest x ray. When I arrived home there was a message to say the operation had been cancelled! I didn't know whether to laugh or cry!

I rang my CNS because I also got a reminder from the hospital to go in on Tuesday!!!! She said it was definitely cancelled, and they had an emergency at the clinic on Friday morning. I'm guessing they had a slot, put me in, then had to cancel it. On one hand I was glad to be deemed able to wait, but cross because I had worked myself up to this!! In the end I had the operation 2 weeks later which was my original date. The outcome was no different!!! I was Stage 1 grade 2 all the way through, and needed no more treatment. This happened 3 years ago.

Hopefully this Covid crisis will pass soon. I'd like to think if your situation was desperate they would have you in. I dealt with it by keeping busy.  All the best. xxxx

Thanks for all your supports. I do feel much better GBear thanks you for understanding what I'm trying to say. Yes these things does happen, it's not too bad if I didn't work. I rang my work place unable to get any shifts back because other staffs  have booked  them. I'm hoping that this operation may happen sooner than later, that way it won't all be wasted. Bridie22 you were lucky to get another date in 2 weeks. Because of covid I don't think mine will happen that quick. NannyAnny that was really sad  what happened to you. How could that have happened in such a short time. It's not the cancellation the hurt, it's the emotional strains that I found hard to cope with after working myself. Please stay safe and well everyone.

  • Hi Haven't heard from you in a while - any news on your op date? How are you coping in the meantime.

    Hello,

I was due to have a full hysterectomy wit BSO and I too had my surgery cancelled. It should have been on 6-1-2021, but was cancelled a week before. Having been told it was because of Covid I was also warned that it might not happen before the end of February. After consideration I took the decision to go private to get it done, my health is worth every penny spent and I have found out that they have only re started cancer surgery this week in the hospital I was die to have it done at. If you can afford it or borrow the money as we did, I would get it done privately. It is worth it to get things over with. H x
