Hi , I got a phone call Friday from the nurse saying my biopsy was abnormal after my hysterscopy  and need to see consultant on Tuesday. I knew this was bad so I asked have I got cancer , she said yes it’s cancer grade 1 but I don’t like talking over the phone come on Tuesday.
I can’t eat , sleep and cry all the time ,what’s going to happen ?

i has abnormal bleeding and a womb lining of 36mm I’m 52

  • Hi  Tippybailey,

Sorry you find yourself here. You have had a big shock, so it will take a few days to get your head round this.

The good thing is it is Grade 1, the lowest grade. Another good thing is that they are seeing you quickly. Have you a friend/husband who can go with you? It helps to have a second pair of ears as you might miss something on Tuesday.

Finally, if you have to have a hysterectomy it really is not bad. I had keyhole surgery, and recovered quickly at 72 years old, although you will need to be careful for a while afterwards. The thing about womb cancer is that it is easier to treat than a lot of other cancers.

    All the best. xxxxx

    Hi Tippeybailey,

This is a very scary time as we have all been where you are now, everything you are feeling & the way you are reacting is perfectly normal !!! All the uncertainty & lack of answers makes it even more daunting.

The comfort I can give you is that Grade 1 is the most easily treated so please keep this in mind, your Consultant will explain it much more in depth with you on Tuesday & discuss a treatment plan with you as well. Please ask all the questions you like & although this is tough right now,you will have some answers soon. They may want to do a few more tests before doing you treatment plan & I know that at the moment time is dragging for you but we are all here to help you through this.

    Love & Hugs xx

  • I so grateful for your kindness and your answer .

ive been googling like crazy I have no one to turn to I’m a single parent with a wonderful 17 year old son but I won’t tell him yet as I don’t want to cause unnecessary worry.

Will they know from the biopsy what grade it is (only words I know from googling ) I know I’m going to ask impossible to answer questions but can it spread to my body parts ?

  • I’m so grateful for you kindness and answer thank you

  • I don’t know what questions I need to be asking , all I want to know is am I going to die . I have no one to go with me .

  • Hi ,

Welcome to our corner of the community I am sorry you had to join us but as you can already see there is lots of friendly advice and support. Each one of us has been where your are now, and when your told you have cancer all kinds of questions pop up. Although Tuesday may seem along way away when you have just received the diagnosis it really is hard not to go straight to the worse case scenario. Grade 1 is the lowest grade and hopefully from that its fully contained in the womb which makes it easier to treat as at low stage and grades its very treatable. Your consultant will of course explain exactly what the results have shown and the course of action to follow. Some are at very early stages are treated with hormone treatment or it could be a hysterectomy. The one thing I found was the surgery was no where near as bad as I thought it would be. It was just before my 38th birthday 3 years ago next Friday when I had my hysterectomy and I know how scared I was and also its the feeling of denial too we just can't believe its happened, I just felt I was seating looking in at someone else getting diagnosed, it took time to get over it. But the good thing here is lots of ladies, different stages and treatment so there is a wealth of information and experience to share and we will do what we can to answer these questions. I know you said you don't know what questions to ask on Tuesday always good to have a list of questions ready so maybe this can help.

    - what's the grade and stage?

    - what's the treatment?

    - what prognosis can you give me?

I think these are a start you may find others you want to ask. I know you don't want to worry your Son but maybe worth having a little chat aboat it, it may help you both deal with what may lay ahead and having someone there as support really helps as there is times you can be so shocked that you can't get the words out you want and maybe they can help do this on your behave.

Good luck for Tuesday and remember there is lots of ladies here, lots of virtual hugs to round too.

    Sending you a gentle hug

  • Thank you G Bear for the questions I shall ask it’s really helpful.
I’m so glad I joined this group , I looked and thought I can’t be doing this talking about cancer then I realise I’ve actually got cancer now myself .

i did not know you can treat with hormone therapy! I’m not bothered about a hysterectomy I just don’t want to have cancer. Will the consultant be able to see the grade from the biopsy ? The nurse mentioned an MRI scan also . I’m guessing to see if it’s spread ? I know I’m asking things that no one can answer please forgive my babbling . It’s so nice just to chat . I’ve been laying in bed just crying and planning my funeral . Being plagued by anxiety is an awful condition I hate being this way . Tuesday I will know everything then I will bend everyone’s ear again sorry !

    Hi Tippybailey,

Great advice from G Bear... I would also recommend avoid looking on Google too much ! There are so many answers & different types & stages of this Cancer that probably do not even apply to you...but Google will frighten you even more. As my Oncologist Surgeon said to me "That's far too much information that you are reading, trust & listen to the professionals who are speaking to you face to face & who will look after you " and you know what he was totally right !!!! I stopped reading the internet straight away. My darling no one wants to have Cancer it's an awful disease, the wonderful thing about being on here as G Bear says is we have all been through it & everyone totally understands where you are right now. Keep talking, keep asking questions, before you go on Tuesday write down things you want to know, ask them to repeat stuff if you are not quite sure as it is a lot to take in at one time, if you can get a friend or neighbour to go with you even better, extra ears are a Godsend & please try to speak to your son, it maybe better after your appointment to do this & you will probably find he will be your ROCK !!! Please keep bending all our ears as much as you like it makes the world of difference getting through this.

    Love & Hugs xx

  • Hi ,

Bend our ears as much as you like if it helps!

They do seem to do an MRI as standard procedure to check for spread but also to generally see what they are dealing with. It helps so much in their planning of how to treat you.

Its worth knowing that i was recommended to have a hysterectomy based from my understanding where the cancer mass was but my stage and grade went down after my hysterectomy, In the end I was 1a grade 2 down from 1b so I had a hysterectomy as my only treatment. Just so you know stage 1a is confined to the womb and the cancer is less then 50% though the wall and muscle of the wall. Stage 1b is 50% and over and generally extra treatment is advised, sometimes as a belt and braces sort of thing too. Everyone's treatment of course is individual lots of different things taken into account including general fitness etc. I have seen people same stage and grade different treatments but whatever plan they have there will be someone here to ask about it.

Its totally understandable to be frightened but its also a good idea to be careful about googling things as already said by just65 there can be a lot of out of date stuff out there your consultant team will explain things to you and if you don't understand something then ask I find that they are very willing to answer any questions you may have and reassure you as much as possible. Its daunting when your first diagnosed its a huge pile to go though but your not alone.
