Sorry for the long post but I have nowhere to turn. I had been suffering with pelvic pain for a few months but put it down to being overweight. Started spotting after going to the toilet on 23 January gradually worsened to bleeding like a period. Difficult to say if blood was in urine or as a result of the bleed. No pain when urinating. Doctor referral to hospital on 27 January. Had an appointment yesterday for an ultrasound and hysteroscopy. Ultrasound shown uterus at 20mm which I know is not good. Also found a polyp. Samples taken from womb lining and polyp. Doctor said I will receive an appointment in 2 weeks to remove the polyp but received notification of appointment today for 18 February. Have I been fast tracked because things are not looking good? Anyone had a similar experience. I am so scared and cannot stop crying.
Heya Georgie,
Welcome to the forum, though I'm sorry you need to be here.
From yesterday to the 18th isn't being fast-tracked. The 18th is in the second week from yesterday, so just as the doctor or hysteroscopy nurse said it would be.
Most polyps and irregular bleeding do not turn out to be cancer. Cancer is found in less than 10% of cases in fact, so at this point there's no need to be quite so worried and stressed out.
The more common cause of thickened womb lining and odd bleeding is something called hyperplasia. This is cured by inserting the Mirena Coil and where needed and possible, losing some weight.
So get yourself out of the house and go and do something nice to distract yourself from the upcoming appointment. Because worrying and stressing yourself out aren't going to change the outcome, they're just going to make the wait miserable. So I always suggest folks do what they need to to take their mind off it. Whether that's cleaning out a cupboard, picking up a hobby, going for lunch/dinner/drinks with friends, having a pampering day. Going to a show. Whatever it is that brings you joy. Now's the time to do it and keep your mind occupied.

Dear Lass
Thank you so much for your reply. I really appreciate it. In my head I know you are exactly right but the devil on my shoulder is taking me to a dark place. However I will try to take your excellent advice and remain positive. You have helped thank you x
Hi Georgie,
Sorry to see you here, but try not to panic yet. I think Lass' advise is exactly what I would say. Until you have some results it could be anything going on. Go and enjoy yourself and keep busy.
When my doctor said he thought I may have cancer (before any hospital appointments), I thought 'Well I need some proof, I'm not panicking yet'. Turns out he was right, but you never know!!! xxxxxx
Thank you NannyAnny, I am such a wimp. I am approaching retirement and we had such plans. I am trying to show a calm face to my family as I don't want them to worry. The support on this page is great and I will try to take all advice. Have a lovely day xx
Hi Georgie,
I hope your retirement plans go to plan! Ours certainly didn't.
My husband had two and half years before he planned to retire, when he started with a sore throat( 14 years ago, now). That turned out to be cancer and we spent the next 3 years backwards and forwards to hospital. It affected his eating, so I had to spend hours cooking and mashing up food. I decided I couldn't work and look after him, so slid into retirement!!
We are not venturing out today. Its very windy on the south coast. We had a day out on Friday instead!! xxxx
It is such a scary time waiting for those first appointments. But until you know what you’re dealing with try not to dwell on it. As has been said here try and concentrate on some nice things, things that occupy you and make you happy. The time will pass and you will be better prepared. You will get through this x
Thank you so much hun. I am trying not to worry my family so cannot express my fears to them. I am normally quite practical and logical but this has turned me into a quivering wreck. Support from other women on here really helps so thank you for your response. May I ask where you are on this journey?
Hi Georgie 1,
I had been bleeding for 3 months, thought it was the menopause. GP examined me and did bloods, smear and fecal test.
And referred me on to Gynae, who examined me, ordered a transvaginal scan. I was told I had 23mm lining and maybe a polyp which looked obscure.
Had my laproscopy 15 days ago, with local anaesthetic. Polyp came out as did too much womb lining.
Consultant advised they would get results to me in 7 days, as they had serious concerns I had uterine cancer. They prescribed me progesterone, to stop bleeding and growth.
Had a call today, day 15 from hospital to say biopsy of lining and polyp are completely clear.
Fabulous news, I was convinced I had cancer from consultants what consultants said to me.
They also were pretty sure I had cancer, as they advised my GP that they had had the discussion with me.
I had read forums in UK, Canada, Aus and my lining was far thicker than anyone's.
Best of luck with your ongoing tests and results xx
Dear Edie, this is fantastic news, I am so happy for you. If not too personal may I ask how old you are and if you had any pelvic pain? I am 60. Thank you so much for replying. I go on Tuesday to have the polyp removed.
