Hi

I'm new to this forum just looking for some reassurance or guidance I guess ...I'm 38 years old with four children ...i started bleeding heavy with clots for around 8 months put this down to having my youngest daughter she is four then I started spotting and bleeding after sex so went doctors where she examined my cervix all looked fine...was referred to have a transvaginal ultrasound to see what was going on that was mondsy of this week found that I had thickening of the endometrial lining...said gp will be In contact got phone call next day from gp that explained my lining is 19mm thick where it should be around 15 mm as I'm phase 2 of my cycle...she said there was no mass or anything and my ovaries were clear just this thckening...anyway Wednesday yesterday i get a letter in the post where I've been referred to have a gyne appointment...I'm so worried I cant seem to function I keep breaking down crying I'm fearing the worse right now it's all moving quite far which makes me believe they must be quite concerned.  Any advice would be appreciated I feel like such a wimp I've not even been diagnosed yet I'm going on like I have  .

  • Heya,

I had atypical/complex hyperplasia all over my womb and the polyps were all cancerous.

I didn't have a hysterectomy, as it is seen as overkill in early cases in younger women these days, and instead had hormone therapy. This involves a coil being fitted into my uterus and twice daily tablets. No sign of cancer or hyperplasia - complex or otherwise - now.

    Hi  lass

Thankyoi for your reply did they remove the cancerous polyps ? My gyne said if it does come back cancerous it will be a hysterectomy if not then he will insert the coil .

I'm so glad you are on the road to recovery makes me feel more hopeful that if it is anything sinister something can be done .

I just wish I never googled anything as I've got myself in a right panic .

  • Hey Carla,

Yup. It was what's called a myosure procedure that was done. It was very similar to a hysteroscopy in that I was awake and it was a camera put up into the womb. They just needed to widen my cervix, so gave me a local anaesthetic in the cervix to widen it enough. Then the straw-like tube chopped away the polyps and the lining, and it was all sent off for testing.

The hormone treatment I've had is quite a new one, and unfortunately not all gynaes are aware of it yet, or how well it's working. So a lot of women are still being unnecessarily put through a hysterectomy.

So if you're pre-menopausal, I'm 38 now and 36 at womb cancer diagnosis, then if it comes back as cancerous and they say you need a hysterectomy - then challenge that if you don't want the hysterectomy. There is another option for early cancer in younger women, and a hysterectomy means your body is automatically forced into the menopause, which can give issues like osteoporosis later in life.

And yes, never ever Google any symptoms. Even if you've got nothing more than a cold then it can come back saying you've got cancer! Lol

  • What was the outcome of your endometrial thickness? Mine is the same and awaiting a biopsy.

  • Hi . As this thread is over 3 years over you might not get an answer from the member. There's quite a few recent posts about thickness of the endometrium and biopsies so why not read some of them and ask questions there?
