Hi all

I was here just a couple of months ago and I was petrified of my diagnosis. It was such a frightening time. I suffered a major bleed  and wondered what was going on. The first a and e doc sent me home saying it was just a bad bleed. 48 hours later they were battling to save my life as the anaemia was sending me rapidly into organ failure. They conducted tests and I was put on the 2 week pathway.

I had a hysteroscopy and they found a big polyp which they were pretty sure was causing the bleed so they removed it. I had a letter afterwards to say there were changes to my womb lining.

At first I was diagnosed with complex hyperplasia with atypia but literally 2 days later they called me back in and told me I had womb cancer.

Within a couple of weeks I had a hysterectomy. I preserved my ovaries as I haven’t been through menopause and for me it was appropriate. Everyone is different but if you are under 45 with womb cancer don’t be scared to ask about ovarian preservation as there are pros and cons for removal/preserving. I did tons of research and I am glad I kept them. However I gave permission to remove them if they looked dodgy. It’s different if you are through menopause already but it’s worth a conversation with your consultant if you’re not through it yet.

It’s now 8 weeks later and I am just back from my holiday in Venice. Tomorrow I go back to work teaching in primary school.

For anyone who is scared ...I have been there and want to help. Reach out if and when you need to x

  • Just to add to this....

If you're early stage, don't just ask about ovary preservation - had I had a hysterectomy they would not have allowed me to keep my ovaries - ask about hormone suppression treatment and avoid a hysterectomy altogether.

Make sure you know all the options, because jumping straight to a hysterectomy is old school thinking.

    Xx
