Hello again

I just wanted to ask if anyone else suffered from recurrent painful UTI's upto and beyond their diagnosis and treatment?  I have had them for over two years and since the Biopsy just over a week ago I have a real serious UTI going on.  Any advice or guidance much appreciated.  Thanks.

  • Hi zigoin.

Ive not had one since my op, my husband had some recurrent infections before and they done a scope and found an infection further up the tube that needed a matched antibiotic to treat it, he hasn't had a problem since, it might be worth asking your gp or team if they can look into it for you, you must be getting so fed up with it.

    lots of love

That must be good news Arla and much relief for you.  I have had a cystoscopy done and all clear, it did, however, highlight the thickening of the womb but my then GP didn't follow it up. The UTI's have gone on for over two years.  Most of the time I was told by the then GP to go away and drink copious amounts of water, which I did to no avail.  So, I used to wait till after 6 pm and phone the OoH, and they always tested and prescribed antibiotics.  Eventually, the then GP conceded there was an issue and ordered the scope and consequent six months of prophylactic antibiotics, which to be fair seem to work. But no-one wants to rely on antibiotics to function. I weekly dip stick test my urine and again, when the cystitis is present the leucocytes are high, so clearly, the white cells are doing battle and blood in the urine is still present.  I just need to understand why.

So, I'm thinking the enlarged womb is putting pressure on the bladder...

    Thank you for responding.

  • you could be right, they usually check your bladder function after the op to make sure everything is working as it should be, I had to measure my first wee lol. I was showing blood in my urine at every test before my op and I haven't shown anything since my hysterectomy two years ago.

  • Hi Zigoin.

When I was in my 20's before having children I was plagued with cystitis. I began to realise that when it started the only thing to do was get antibiotics. I tried drinking copious amounts of cranberry juice, but nothing worked. The strange thing is once I had children I had no more trouble. Maybe things stretched a little, or something!!!

I think you may be right about the womb pressing on the bladder. I never thought about one affecting the other, but after my hysterectomy, my bladder was obviously bruised and refused to work!!! I was kept in hospital another day, and even then it took about a week to settle down.

    Good luck xxxx
