Hi All,
I wanted to ask those who have finished treatment, what tests and examinations you then had at your 3 monthly/four monthly/6 monthly checks?
How often did you get actual physical examinations, how often scans, blood tests etc. Was that only if there was a symptom to investigate, or was it as a matter of routine?
What stage did you start 3 monthly appointments, after all chemo and radiotherapy had finished?
Wondering what the usual practice is on this.
Thanks.
I had a hysterectomy and brachytherapy for grade 1 stage 2b. I have had 3 month check ups for the last year since I finished treatment. The first one was just a chat with my CNS, after that I have had an Internal examination by her each time as well as a chat. No scans or blood tests or anything yet though.
I had a hysterectomy and radiotherapy and brachytherapy finishing in October 2017. Stage 1a Grade 2 with LVSI. I have been having 3 monthly check ups, with internals at each check up and CA125 blood tests and chest x-rays at alternate appointments. I had my 3 month check up a few weeks ago, next one is in November this year and then apparently I will be moving to 6 monthly check ups. I felt a bit worried at first when she told me that it will be double the time between check ups but I expect I will get used to it in time.
Hugs, Lesley xx
Thanks ,
It sounds like 3 monthly internal exam is the standard then.
My oncologist is saying I will have a scan after a year from my op which will be 6 months after the end of my chemo, so I suppose that's similar.
I did read that it's normal to go less frequent after 2 years. I can understand what you mean, the more checks the better, but I hope you do find you feel comfortable with that bigger gap. Its reassuring that they feel you are suitable to move to that.
Hugs to you too x
I'm 2 years post-op now, I had a 3-monthly check up (with internal) for the first year, 6- monthly for the 2nd year and have just been offered to move onto "patient initiated referral" - All is good and I don't need to go back, but if I have any symptoms or concerns I can refer myself back to the gynae-oncologist without having to go through my GP. I'm happy with this, sounds a good idea to me. My CNS says that it's being rolled out across various health trusts in the next year or two.
Hi ,
I think we all worry about whether our follow-up regime is right. There have been lots of posts in the past about our follow-ups and what tests are done. There doesn't seem to be a single pattern - probably because we have all had a different diagnosis/histology and also each hospital has its own way of doing things. ( I think I had my radiotherapy at the same hospital as Lesley. My regime has been the same as hers and I am now on annual checks).
Whatever the frequency of your checks and tests, I gather that the most important thing is that you are told what changes and symptoms you should look out for. If you have any concerns you shouldn't wait for your next appointment but seek advice from your CNS.

I've got my first three month check coming up on 15/8 and having just phoned the hospital because my wound is still exuding and not fully closed I have just been informed that I have to have a transvaginal scan done, not relating to the wound of anything, but this is normal in my hospital. I haven't had chemo or radiation just a total radical hysterectomy. I think it differs from area to area, region to region. God bless love lamb...xx
