Had my hysterectomy in April, Brachytherapy finished 4 weeks ago. I'm experiencing burning/internal itching where I my opp was. Had anyone else had this. Also bowel problems Smirkthanks

  • Hi Roseanna, sorry to hear of the discomfort you are having.  I had brachytherapy too and definitely experienced bowel problems, urgency and looseness for quite a time afterwards, it gradually got better but I wasn't back to normal for several months.  I took loperamide when needed.  Although I didn't experience the internal itching and burning I'm not surprised.  I was warned to expect it but was lucky not to be affected.  All the same, why not check with your GP, your CNS nurse or your radiotherapy team.  They will at least be able to advise you how to relieve it and should check that there is no infection.  Hoping you feel better soon. Xx

I had a miserable time thru my brachytherapy sessions with severe cystitis and bleeding. No issues where my op was tho. Problems with both my bladder and bowel continued for a long time, I finished brachytherapy on Oct 12 last year and they are thankfully much improved now 9 months later. Definitely speak to your CNS.

I've also had lots of joint pain which I never had before and had numerous blood tests to try and work out why.  I do feel a lot of the time I'm more knowledgeable about my cancer and issues than the GP and locums I've seen!!

    Hope things improve soon x

Thankyou for your reply. So strange had my follow up appointment with radiotherapy this week, she was saying that the the brachytherapy was unlikely to be causing the upset bowels now, I found this strange as on all the imformation they give you it says otherwise. I know my body. I will follow up with my cns x

Thanks for the reply, I'm getting very conflicting imformation from my team, very confusing x

  • I had my three sessions of brachytherapy in April but I’m still experiencing abdominal pain and it seems to me it’s getting worse although blood tests and a second scan came back ok. My bowel has settled down but it’s definitely moved.

i didn’t expect to be feeling this bad so many months later but I don’t think it’s unusual.

Hope you start to improve soon x
