I have had weeping from my tummy button since two weeks after my operation. I saw the nurse at the surgery and she removed the (supposed to be) dissolving stitches but felt it would clear up. It didn't so I went back and was given manuka honey dressings to use. That didn't work so I saw the GP last week who took a swab and prescribed 7 days worth of antibiotics.
I have just had GP on the phone to say that the swab result has come back and the current antibiotics are no good for this infection. She is prescribing Metronidazole to tackle it. Apparently I will have a horrible metallic taste in my mouth and won't want to eat. I don't like the sound of the side effects of this antibiotic at all!
Just wondering if anyone else has had this much trouble with their tummy button after keyhole surgery?
Hi grannya,
i had open surgery but my wound got infected, I had three or four lots of antibiotics over six weeks but it sorted itself out eventually. Keep going to the gp until it looks better and you feel better. When I had the antibiotic matched to the infection from a swab I saw a much better improvement.

Thank you everyone. I am hoping the matched antibiotic does the trick. I started it today and so far I have no horrible taste but there again I've only had two lots! Fingers crossed
Nina I'll look into the Hibiscrub.
